NFL Betting: Week 2 Odds Favor Dolphins, Patriots on Road

OddsShark.comSep 9, 2014

NFL Week 2 action gets underway on Thursday night, with the 0-1 Baltimore Ravens favored by a field goal over the visiting 1-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Ravens are coming off a 23-16 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1 and have had to endure the distraction caused by recent controversy surrounding the team.

The Steelers topped the Cleveland Browns 30-27 in Week 1 but failed to cover as 5.5-point favorites. However, the Steelers have been a strong bet on the road, as they are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine and 5-1 ATS when facing the Ravens on the road.

A pair of teams that staged major upsets last weekend meet on Sunday, when the Miami Dolphins visit the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins were early one-point road favorites but bet back to a pickem following their surprising 33-20 win over the New England Patriots.

The Dolphins have carried over their strong finish from last season, winning four of their last six straight-up while posting a 6-2 record ATS in their last eight.

The Bills, surprise 23-20 winners over the Bears in Chicago last Sunday, won 19-0 in Miami’s last visit back in December. Buffalo are 7-3 ATS and SU in its last 10 home dates against the Fish and are 7-2 ATS in its last nine overall.

The 0-1 Patriots will look to rebound in Week 2 as three-point road favorites over the 1-0 Minnesota Vikings. While the Pats are 5-2 SU in their last seven against Minnesota, they have been a major betting disappointment as a road team, going 1-7 ATS and 2-6 SU in their last eight.

In Week 1, Minnesota dominated the Rams in St. Louis, 34-6, in a game it entered as 2.5-point road dogs. Sunday’s game is the Vikings’ first in their temporary home at TCF Bank Stadium, where they will play for the next two seasons.

The Vikes ended strong last season, 4-1 ATS and SU in their final five games at the Metrodome.

In other Week 2 NFL action, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers open as 4.5-point favorites over the Rams. However, early betting line volatility suggests that the Bucs could be much heavier favorites by Sunday.

The Denver Broncos are favored by 13 over the Kansas City Chiefs, while the Seattle Seahawks opened as 4.5-point road favorites over the San Diego Chargers, and the Bears travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers as seven-point underdogs.
