Your Favorite Sports Moment?
For me, it was 1994 NBA Finals, game five. The Knicks, yes the team which most recently fired Isiah Thomas, among the worst teams in the NBA, actually won some basketball games.
On June 17 1994, the Knicks captured a 3-2 series lead to close within one game of the title. Aside from being one of the loudest crowds of all of the sports events I have attended, it was also known as the “O.J. Game”.
If you folks, watching on TV, recall NFL Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson's slow-speed freeway chase was occurring simultaneously. Fans at the sold-out Madison Square Garden were packed into the corridors to watch the basketball game on one television, and the car chase on another. The NBA on NBC television broadcast even switched over to the car chase.
Although I was only eight years old at the time, I recall my father putting me on his shoulders, so that I could see the car chase among the crowd of people. It was one of the most bizarre sporting events that I have ever attended. People were more concerned with this idiot, then game five of the NBA Finals.
The victorious Knicks won a well-battled game, as Patrick Ewing and John Starks propelled the Knicks to a 94-86 win. The crowd, although distracted by the car chase, was louder then any other Knicks game I have attended. It was something I will remember for a long time. Fans had their towels ready, waving them around for every play.
Even re-watching the game was not able to help me relive my memories or tell the story of exactly what happened, in Madison Square Garden, that one evening in the summer of 1994. Those memories shall live with me for a lifetime, and that sporting event that I attended will live on with me forever.
What’s the MOST MEMORABLE SPORTING EVENT YOU’VE ATTENDED?
Share with me!
(Was the crowd louder then you ever imagined in person, did you see history, a record broken, a fantastic play, a title won, future on the Jumbotron, or did the man in front of you refuse to sit down the whole game)
Tell Me Your Story, and try to throw up any cool pics, or pics of stubs or other cool tidbits you may want to share from your memory filled memorable event.

Dec. 27, 2000- Mario Lemieux returned to the Penguins out of retirement. The buzz was huge during the Christmas holiday, with speculation that Mario would be coming back after Christmas. I got tickets for the game for Christmas, and little did I know what I would experience. Mario closley replicated his first NHL game (when he scored on his first shot on his first shift) by getting an assist 33 seconds into the game, but the real prize came in the 2nd period when he scored his first goal. The Igloo erupted, loudest i've ever heard it (and i've been to 3 playoff games). He finished the night with a goal and 2 assists, and was the 1st star of the game. People stayed in their seats for 15 minutes after the game was over, applauding Mario. The song "Simply the Best" by Tina Turner came on the PA system, and it was an unbelievable day to be a Pens fan.

Last night must have been pretty loud as well. Place looks crazy, I'd like to get down their sometime to a game. NBC showed the overflow of today's crowd on the lawn right outside the stadium, have you ever sat our their for a game? Pretty intense to be a hockey fan the PA this time of year.

Superbowl 38 (Infamous wardrobe malfunction) & Superbowl 42 (the glory of watching Pats fans sulk and cry as drunken New Yorkers rub it in)
from 3 months ago
Spenser,
I didn't have the opportunity to attend the Super Bowl that year, and I have never had the chance to attend the Super Bowl. The only way I can justify myself to spend that kind of money would be seeing my team play in the Super Bowl. I'm a Jets fan, so hopefully, I'll be able to attend a Super Bowl in my lifetime.
One thing that I would ask you about that game, for all of us "losers" that watch the game on television" would be the crowd reaction after the wardrobe malfunction. Cheers, boos, where people going crazy? That is something that us people on TV?

I'll throw a curveball- how about the most immemorable sporting event. It has to be last year's Preakness, do not remember a thing.

Michael,
Although you don't remember the actually event, by mentioning it, you recall attending the event.
While it's hard to find that many hardcore horseracing fans on this website, the "Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes" are 3 of the best known events in all of sports.
I'm sure that attending one of them is much different then event watching on TV.

I never sat out on the lawn, this is the first year they have started doing that. One of my buddies sat out there for a game in the first round, he said it was pretty cool... and it's free so no worries there. Well, besides paying $12 to park your car.

I went to the 2005 Fiesta Bowl as a Univeristy of Utah fan. Amazing experience with the undefeated team easily defeating Pitt and being the first outsider to crash the BCS. The game was just amazing and the best part was when Utah decided to show that they could score and ran the hook anf ladder just to show they could score.

Jeremy,
How does a Bowl Game compare to going to a game in Utah? How is the crowd? Was the atmosphere in the town at the time different then anything your ever recalled as a Utes fan?

Jeff,
When the wardrobe thing happened, I personally wasn't paying attention, but the people sitting next to me mentioned it, and spent the rest of the game debating whether Janet's titty popped out or not.
But the best part of that superbowl that no one saw on tv was the streaker. That famous english guy who real sports did a special on; ya well he had disguised himself as a ref, then trotted to midfield to lay the ball on the tee for halftime kickoff. Then he took off all his clothes and ran around with all 75,000+ people cheering him on; until a Patriots player laid him out, and he was taken off by cops.

Spenser,
For those of use that haven't had the opportunity to go to a Super Bowl, I'm sure we are all aware the price of the times, and all of the media and players that attend the games. Along with the high prices, what was the food and beer like during the game, anything different then any other football game that you've been to?

vancouver: dallas-vancouver game one, playoffs 2007: 4-4 by the end of the third, 72 saves for Luongo ... it was over at about 3 AM or something, exhausting and stressfull...

Watched last night's 4 overtime game on television. I could only imagine watching a game like that in person. Must be long, intense, and something that you'll never forget

Mine would actually have to be a tie between two knick games, when David Lee tipped in the ball with .01 secs left in double OT or when Van Gundy was punched out by Camby, i attended playoff games as well, but only the two most recent rounds in which the knicks were sweeped by toronto and new jersey.

You wouldn't remember Larry Johnson's 4 point play in the playoffs against the Pacers, would you? That would define that one loudest moment that I have ever heard the Garden. The place was rockin'

Jeffrey, the town was buzzing the whole year with excitement. The bowl game was like a home game because over 50K attended the Fiesta Bowl. The game itself was more exciting then a home game. The only gripe was that Utah couldn't get a better opponet like undefeated Auburn which would have been an amazing game that Utah could have wona nd would have been a better game

Jeremy,
Just another questions for ya. Out of all of the sporting events that you have attended to do find it more enjoyable watching your team win at home, cheering along with the home crowd, or watching all of the opposing fans go home after their team looses after a roadtrip?
from 3 months ago
I got to see both happen in the recent Chicago Bears NFC Championship game. There were tons of New Orleans fans at the game before it started, but when I left, there wasn't a Saint fan to be found and everybody was cheering and having a good time.

Joe,
Would you rather see your team win at home, with the home crowd and all of the fans around your would you rather see your team win on the road. Both different, although up for comparison?
Home or Away, what you gonna choose?
from 3 months ago
I would rather watch the win at home because there are always a few fans of the opposing team at home that you can make fun of. Plus I enjoy seeing how long they can last when drunk fans are yelling at them. I went to the 2007 season finale against the Saints as well and there was a fan in a Reggie Bush jersey with fans yelling "Reggie Bush is QUEER" and "Reggie Bush sucks like (insert slutty celebrity)" and he took it most of the game before some yelling occurred in the 4th quarter that ended with the Saints fan leaving with 2 middle fingers proudly held up above his head. These seats are in the nose-bleeds (underneath the scoreboard which is extremely far away, we had about 10 rows between us and the back of the stadium) so we got the drunk rowdy fans that couldn't afford the good tickets and it's always enjoyable.
