NFL Week 7 Picks: Highlighting Best Predictions Against the Spread

Steven CookOct 19, 2013

Picking who will win any given NFL game is hard enough, given the parity of this league. Picking if a team will cover the spread, however, is a whole different beast.

The Jacksonville Jaguars covering their 27-point deficit against the Denver Broncos is an obvious indication that picking spreads can be tough to do. But that just comes with the unpredictability of this league. A team can go from being on fire to losing to one of the NFL's worst teams in the span of a week.

Let's take a look at the best picks to make against the spread in Week 7.

Dallas Cowboys (+3) over Philadelphia Eagles

Led by a resurgent Tony Romo, the Cowboys offense has been one of the most impressive developments of the 2013 season thus far, and it should only get better with a favorable Week 7 matchup.

Against the Philly defense, expect more of the same from Romo. The Eagles rank 31st in the league in pass defense and have been serving up big performances to opposing quarterbacks all season long.

The Cowboys will be starting rookie Joseph Randle in place of an injured DeMarco Murray, but all signs from Dallas point to him having success per Dallas Morning News

The Eagles have had their fair share of success on offense, but without Michael Vick, per USA Today Sports, the capabilities of the Chip Kelly offense are downgraded tenfold. Nick Foles had a good day last weekend against the Bucs, but after all, it was the Bucs.

Dallas' defense has been horrendous as of late, but its offense has been able to make up for that and then some. That should at least get Jason Garrett and company to cover their spread.

Tennessee Titans (+4) over San Francisco 49ers

Although it's a game that could go either way, I'm not picking the Titans to upset the 49ers. I just think it'll be a field-goal-or-less difference between them when it's all said and done.

The Titans have played toe-to-toe with everyone this season. Don't let their two straight losses fool you—Tennessee threw one away late against Kansas City and was within striking distance of Seattle on the road until late in the fourth.

The Tennessee defense has only given up two passing touchdowns to receivers, so don't expect that struggling 49ers pass offense to suddenly find life on the road in Nashville. Just as well, Jake Locker could return to action and provide a spark for a struggling Titans offense, per the Associated Press via ESPN.

San Francisco's rushing game has been the featured product and should get it past a pesky Titans squad, but don't expect it to be an easy win by any means.
