Revisiting The Bucs 2006 Draft

Dustin RoederApr 30, 2009

It's time to grade the Bucs on their 2006 draft. For grading criteria, if the player made it to the pro bowl, he gets an A. If he has started at least 24 games (1.5 seasons) he gets a B. Cs are still on the team. Ds are still in the NFL. Fs are no longer in the NFL.

Round 1, Pick 23: Davin Joseph, G, Oklahoma

Started 41 games over 3 years, including 12 as a rookie.Made the Probow in 2008. Grade: A

Round 2, Pick 59: Jeremy Trueblood, T, Boston College

Started 45 games over 3 years, including 13 as a rookie. Grade: B+

Round 3, pick 90: Maurice Stovall, WR, Notre Dame

Two starts, 20 receptions for 213 yards with 1 TD. Grade: C-

Round 4, pick 122: Alan Zemitas, CB, Penn State

No longer in NFL, never appeared in a game. Grade: F-

Round 5, pick 156: Julian Jenkins, DE, Stanford

No longer in NFL, appeared in 12 games accumulating 9 tackles. Grade: F

Round 6, pick 194: Bruce Gradkowski, QB, Toledo

Currently a free agent, appeared in 19 games, starting 12. He has completing 52.8 percent of his passes for 1,817 yards with 9 TDs and 13 INTs. He has already found a roster spot on the Raiders for 2009. Grade: B-

Round 6, pick 202: T.J. Williams, TE, NC State

No longer in the NFL, never appeared in a game. Grade: F-

Round 7, pick 235: Justin Phiisee, CB, Oregon

No longer in the NFL, never appeared in a game. Grade: F

Round 7, pick 241: Charles Bennett, DE, Clemson

Appeared in three games for the Bucs picking up 2 tackles. Tennessee picked him up once the Bucs cut him. He is no longer in the NFL. Grade: F.

Round 7, pick 244: Tim Massaquoi, TE, Michigan

Cut by the Bucs in 2006, appeared in seven games for the Dolphins, and four games for the Bills, but never recorded a statistic.

So adding up all of the grade points, just like you would in college (grade times credits). And we'll pretend that the first round is a 7 credit class, the second round is six and so forth. That gives Tampa Bay 58.9 grade points, and 32 Credits. That's a GPA of 1.84

Getting two starting offensive lineman is a decent draft.Even with a pro-bowler and nothing else to show but a often called upon third string QB, would make this draft almost passing. A goal should be 3 starters, and 2 backups. If you were able to draft 5 NFL roster players, it would take 7 years to completely cycle through all of your players.

With that being said, I'd say my GPA is pretty accurate.
