The St. Louis Rams just got bigger—by about 400 pounds.
USA Today's Simon Samano reports on Terrell Brown, a former Ole Miss lineman who came into camp just a tad bigger than anyone expected.
It all starts with a reporter asking Jeff Fisher, "6'10", 385?"
Coach is happy to report that it is far more amazing than all of that (via the St. Louis Rams' official website):
Actually, we weighed him in at 403. ... We had him in for the tryout, and he had some issues that we had to clear up from a physical standpoint. But he got that put behind us. We worked him out on both sides of the ball — defensive line, offensive line — and we felt like his best position would be right tackle. (Rams offensive line coach Paul Boudreau) said he’d love to have him. So far...he got through practice. He’s a defensive lineman that we’ve converted over to offensive lineman.
He also adds, "He might be able to block some kicks." Indeed, coach, and he will also be able to block punts, passes, cars, trains, the weather and much more.
As if fat jokes weren't already on the tip of your tongue, Brown had the unfortunate claim of once breaking a chair on live television. USA Today reminds us with the following video that a far more svelte Brown once sat on a chair that just gave up from exhaustion.
It never stood a chance.
You can hear the reporter proclaim the defensive tackle was a whopping 377 pounds at the time, so the Rams had better reinforce their bench if Brown makes the team. You only need to see him tower over Stedman Bailey in the receiver's Instagram pic to see how jumbo-sized he truly is.
The report also notes Brown had some experience on the offensive line, so we imagine he isn't plunging entirely into a new foray on that side of the ball. Fisher seems pleased with what he has seen so far at practice, which means we may have ourselves a new mountain of a man to watch on Sundays.
At the very least, we have someone who can match Vince Wilfork spoon for spoon. Craft services, you have been warned.
