Reds' Resident Hero Todd Frazier Slams Home Run for Batboy Ted Kremer

Gabe ZaldivarJun 8, 2018

Todd Frazier's home run in Thursday night's game was the greatest moment in sports history, according to bat boyย Ted Kremer.ย

We are inclined to agree with him.ย

Cincinnati.com reports on a story that will force a smile from even the grouchiest of baseball fans. It seems Frazier's home run in the sixth inning offย John Maine was requested by the beloved bat boy.ย

The jubilant Kremer, according to Yahoo! Sports, won a silent auction to be the Reds' bat boy for a day back in 2012. The man with Down syndrome was 29 years old at the time and did an amazing job. Wanting some of his infectious joy back in the clubhouse, the team had him return on Thursday.ย

Perย Cincinnati.com, he stole the show.ย

It all started with two demands from Kremer: 11 strikeouts from the pitchers, which would mandate the free pizza giveaway courtesy ofย LaRosaโ€™s and a home run from the third baseman.ย

โ€œHeโ€™s so funny, he said, โ€˜Cโ€™mon, hit me a home run, I love you.โ€™ I said, โ€˜I love you too, Iโ€™ll hit you one,โ€™โ€ Frazier recounted during a postgame interview following an 11-1 blowout of the Marlins.

Frazier is a man of his word.ย

More than a home run, Frazier got one memorable greeting from his biggest fan, via a picture fromย The Cincinnati Enquirer's Facebook page.ย

Frazier continues, via Cincinnati.com:

"

'It was great how excitedโ€”that look,' Frazier said. 'I started smiling even before I hit home plate because I knew it. They said he forgot to pick the bat up, so the umpire was yelling at him. It was such a great a great guy. You canโ€™t get madโ€”even if you have a terrible day. How can you be mad when youโ€™ve got a guy like that around?'

"

Yeah, yeah, but what about that pizza?

As the report states, the lucky number 11 came in the seventh when a J.J. Hoover strikeout sent Chris Valaikaย back to the bench.ย

Baker chimed in with, "He kept saying, weโ€™ve got to get 11. He loves that pizza."

I don't know about you, but I'd say this team may want to consider making Kremer a permanent fixture in the dugout.ย

It seems that he has a way of lifting spirits, which extends far beyond the Reds organization. It's safe to say fans of any team now have a new favorite sports personality.ย

Just like fans who apparently chanted Kremer's name after the home run, we demand more of this amazing young man.ย
