Mike Piazza Will Cameo in Miami City Ballet Because the World Is Wonderful

A few lucky souls out there may get to see one of the more rare sights in sports: the Mike Piazza plie

The New York Daily News reports the former Mets slugger will give people in the Miami area just one chance to take a gander at his dancing chops as he features in a local ballet.

Sort of.

Per the report, Piazza will be limited in his performance, which makes sense because we wouldn't think an entire career of catching would render him a graceful dancer

For one night only, the former Mets catcher will have a bit part in a performance of “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue” at the Miami City Ballet on May 3.

Piazza, 44, will play the role of “The Gangster” — a character who threatens the protagonist of the ballet and then coldly watches the performance unfold.

I will go ahead and assume the 44-year-old former player is using his spat with Roger Clemens as motivation in his role as "The Gangster."

Before we continue, I do have to say "The Slaughter on Tenth Avenue"—while being a classic ballet—now sounds like something directed by Rob Zombie.

Now comes the part where we tell you the truth about Piazza's role, so look away if you still hold onto fanciful tales such as the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny.

The ballet company's spokesman, Roberto Santiago, broke this horrible news, "He won’t be dancing or catching any flying ballerinas, but he will be part of the action." Way to suck all the fun out of the room, Santiago. Why don't you just outlaw dancing period like in Footloose?

Well, we understand because we doubt Piazza, as graceful as he might be, could duplicate what Gene Kelly does here in this rendition of "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue."

If you are wondering the impetus behind his dabble into ballet, Piazza is just being a damn good dad.

His 6-year-old daughter, Nicoletta — who is a student at the Miami City Ballet school — urged him to take on the role.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun seeing the reaction of my two little girls,” Piazza said in a statement. “For (Nicoletta) to have the opportunity to see Daddy on stage is my little gift. I’m looking forward to it.”

As the report reminds, Piazza does have some experience acting. Here is the method actor giving his best work as a man with beautiful hair.

Other than that, he also made cameos in Married with Children and Two Weeks Notice

Well, we can now say something that wasn't possible at the end of his career; this guy has range.
