Jose Canseco Will Play Texas Winter Baseball

You have to give the guy credit: Jose Canseco wants to play baseball.

A few months back, Canseco was under contract with the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League, and then left to join the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the North American League. That deal never came to fruition, but he’s back in Texas and he’s ready to play.

The Valley Morning Star reported that Canseco will be in town this weekend to play in some Texas Winter League games.

The Texas Winter League, which was an affiliation of the now defunct North American Baseball League, looks for players who are interested in improving their skills under the tutelage of experienced managers and coaches.

And according the to the TWL website, they have confirmed that representatives of the Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins will be attending.

Canseco, who was quoted in the Morning Star, is looking forward to some batting practice, where he’ll no doubt put on one hell of a show, and will be looking for a deal, whether it’s playing or managing.

“I’m looking forward to playing again,” Canseco said. “I want to play again, see the town, see the city. ... We’ll be taking (batting practice), I’ll be bringing my bat, launching some balls.”

“(A deal’s) out there, it most likely will be offered to me,” Canseco said. “I will definitely consider playing there or other opportunities out there, playing or managing.”

If anyone is near Harlingen Field in Harlingen, Texas, you definitely check this out.
