“Pass caught by number 87, Reggie Wayne.”

Green Bay Packers fans may have been hearing the above phrase quite a bit in their sleep last night as a result of the yeoman’s effort from Wayne in the Indianapolis Colts’ 30-27 surprise win over the Packers yesterday.

Wayne had 13 receptions for 212 yards in the game, with six of those receptions coming in the final quarter. The 212 yards receiving was a career high for the 12-year veteran and broke the franchise record for most yards receiving in a game.

In game planning for the Colts, you would think that Packers coaches would have targeted Wayne as a player they had to stop, especially considering that Wayne had previously had a monster game against the Packers back in 2004. Wayne had 11 catches for 184 yards in the Colts’ 45-31 win over the Packers on September 26, 2004.

Wayne now has two of the top four receiving games against the Packers in Green Bay history.

Following are the top 10 games by opponents’ receivers against the Packers since 1960.

Player, team, yards receiving (date)

Calvin Johnson, Detroit, 244 (1-1-2012)

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis, 212 (10-7-2012)

Andre Reed, Buffalo, 191 (11-20-1994)

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis, 184 (9-26-2004)

Duriel Harris, Miami, 180 (10-28-1979)

Jerry Rice, Oakland, 159 (12-22-2003)

Kellen Winslow, San Diego, 157 (10-7-1984)

Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia, 156 (12-5-2004)

Vance Johnson, Denver, 148 (10-10-1993)

LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego, 144 (12-14-2003)

Wayne became the 30th player since 1960 to have 10 or more receptions in a game against the Packers. He also became the fifth player to accomplish this feat multiple times in a career.

Randy Moss tops the list with three games against the Packers with 10 or more receptions. Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Michael Irvin and Wayne are the players who had 10-plus receptions in two separate games against the Pack.

Wayne has played three games against the Packers in his career, catching 26 passes for 420 yards and two touchdowns. His 140 yards per game average receiving against the Packers is the highest per-game average against any team in his career.

Also of note is that of the 91 players who have caught 25 or more passes and the 58 players who gained 400 or more yards receiving against the Packers in their careers, Wayne is the only player on both lists who has played less than five games against the Packers.
