Miami Dolphins Stock Watch: Which Players Are Rising and Falling Post Week 3

After a heartbreaking loss to the New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins now stand at 1-2 in the young season. This season has already been a roller coaster for Miami and the whole year is expected to be that way. The Dolphins don't have the most talented team, but they will keep playing hard every game despite being underdogs. 

Miami has had some negatives early in the season, but they have also had positives. They were a play away of being 2-1 and a division leader entering Week 4. 

Some players have been playing at a high level and have kept improving week after week. Others have either dropped their productivity level or haven't been able to get going yet.

Here's the stock watch of some players after Week 3.

Stock Up: Davone Bess

Davone Bess has always been a reliable receiver for the Dolphins.

Whether its on third-and-short or other key situations, he always seems to come up with the big play. This week against the Jets, he was able to help his rookie quarterback in the late moments of the game by making an acrobatic catch and instigating a pass interference penalty all on the last drive of the fourth quarter.

Bess is Miami's No. 2 receiver and their most reliable. With him playing at a high level and getting open on short routes down the middle, he gives Ryan Tannehill a target he can always look to when he's under pressure.

With no alpha receiver on the roster, it is important that he keeps improving and developing chemistry with Tannehill for the Dolphins to be successful.

Stock Down: Richard Marshall

It is safe to say that Richard Marshall didn't play to his potential against the Jets.

He did record an interception, but was constantly beaten deep and probably had nightmares about Santonio Holmes on Sunday night.

Marshall was called for some pass interference penalties that were costly and gave up the big play in overtime that allowed the Jets to kick the game-winning field goal.

The receiver who caught the ball? 

Santonio Holmes.

Marshall even got called for holding on the play and still couldn't prevent the play.

Marshall has been penalized a lot through the first three games and has allowed some big plays. Miami is already thin at cornerback and if they can't get the player that beat out Vontae Davis to start playing at a high level, the secondary is going to be in more trouble than expected.

Stock Up: Brian Hartline

Brian Hartline has turned into Ryan Tannehill's favorite target.

Against the Oakland Raiders, he was all over the field, terrorizing the opposing defense. Against the Jets he wasn't as productive, but he had either Darrelle Revis or Antonio Cromartie on him the whole game.

With Hartline and Bess being the only receiving threats, it was easy for the Jets to focus on Hartline and not allow him to beat them.

Hartline was targeted a couple times in the end zone at the end of the fourth quarter when Miami was taking a shot to try to win the game. Even though Tannehill overthrew him a couple times, he was looking for his favorite receiver to make the play in crunch time.

Hartline was shut down much of the game, but he came up with a big play in overtime that allowed the Dolphins to have a shot to win the game.

Hartline is Miami's best receivers in one of the thinnest receiving corps in the league. He needs to keep playing at a high level and keep giving Tannehill a reliable target.

Stock Down: Daniel Thomas

Daniel Thomas has been far from impressive in his first two games of the season (he missed the second game due to a concussion).

He has fumbled twice in two games and hasn't given the coaching staff a reason to keep him as the second running back on the depth chart. 

He has 80 yards on 22 carries thus far and has been outplayed by rookie Lamar Miller. Thomas was already coming into this year with some pressure to perform after a lackluster rookie year.

With the uncertainty of whether Reggie Bush will play on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Miami will have to lean on Thomas and he has to perform if he wants to keep seeing the field with regularity.

Stock Up: Lamar Miller

Like I said on the previous slide, Lamar Miller has been the second best running back for the Dolphins.

Miami knew they got a steal when they drafted Miller in the fourth round in the last draft. Miller was projected to be a first or second round pick but his stock drop due to questions about his knee.

Well, three games in the Dolphins look to have made one of the smartest decisions in the draft. Miller has run for 113 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. He is averaging 5.9 yards per carry which is just .1 yards per game less than Reggie Bush.

Miller has been listed as the third running back on the depth chart in the first three games, but with his high level of play and Daniel Thomas' struggles, he might be moving up to the No. 2 spot.

Stock Up: Karlos Dansby

After commenting that he was the best linebacker in football, Karlos Dansby had a lot to live up to this season.

He is still not the best linebacker in football, but he is playing at a very high level early in the season. He moved into the inside linebacker position this season when Miami switched to a 4-3 base defense and it appears that it has helped him.

Dansby has been covering running backs, tight ends and even wide receivers. He has been asked to do a little bit of everything and is doing an excellent job.

He leads the team in tackles with 25 and has become the defensive leader. 

Miami has a very good defense and if Dansby keeps playing at this level, the defense will keep the Dolphins in a lot games.
