With Fred Jackson out, the last thing the Buffalo Bills needed in their game against Cleveland was an injury to C.J. Spiller, who led the NFL with 292 yards coming into Week 3.

After taking a screen pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick up the field for about 25 yards, Spiller was tackled and landed directly on his left shoulder.

Great news for Spiller. While it looks like he will not be able to play next week, the early prognosis is great.

The Buffalo News' Jay Skurski passed along some quotes from Chan Gailey. Gailey acknowledges that Spiller is "out for a week or two," but when asked if Spiller broke his collarbone, he replied "no."

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Spiller will undergo testing to determine the extent of damage in his shoulder on Monday.

Spiller's presence in the lineup, even if they get Jackson back, is critical. We have seen how much Spiller changes the running game when he is out there. Hopefully all the news comes back as well as can be expected.

UPDATE: Sunday, September 23 at 2:10 p.m. ET by Adam Wells

Tim Graham of the Buffalo News is reporting that Spiller will not, in fact, return to the game due to a shoulder injury.

Hopefully it is just a one-game injury because of the way Spiller has been playing, but we will have to await test results before knowing the full extent of the damage. It didn't look very good, so we shall see.

As Pete Prisco of CBS Sports put it, ouch. It looked bad as soon as it happened, and Spiller was in a lot of pain.

Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reported that Spiller was carted off the field without a high possibility of return.

Spiller has been the best thing to happen to the Bills offense in this young season. He was finally getting a real chance to show what he could do and looked like a star in the making.

If Spiller is out for a substantial amount of time, it is likely going to drastically alter the game plan for the Bills.

We will keep you updated on Spiller's injury and status as soon as more information becomes available.
