For the first time since I have been a Ravens fan, and I have been a fan for a long time, I have been listening to the local sports radio talk shows during the offseason. At first it was great because it filled the void left after the games ended.
But then it started to make me nervous. All the speculation, the he said, he said (obviously can’t use “she said”), who’s staying, who’s going, while fun at first wears thin. I came to the conclusion that it was a waste of time.
There was no way any of us could speculate as to what the future could bring. What was going on behind closed doors would reveal itself in time. I had to stop listening all day and limit my listening to my drive time.
I know, I know, I take it all too personal, it is a business. But, I can’t picture Ray Lewis playing in any other uniform then a Ravens. Does he really dream of playing with a star on his helmet, lusting for another team?
I didn’t even realize I was the jealous type! To see Jason Brown leave when he has expressed his desire to stay breaks my heart. If it is any consolation, Jason I wanted you to stay!
Jim Leonhard, I hoped they could come up with a way to keep you as well. Darn you Rex Ryan. (But, good luck in your new job, congratulations.)
Can Domonique Foxworth be the answer to our cornerback woes? I guess Ozzie Newsome thinks so. But to hear the resentment of Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle for the way they feel they are being treated, for some reason I feel guilty.
How could I not, after cheering for Samari as he worked so hard to get back after suffering from epilepsy. I feel bad for Derrick Mason. After the effort he put in this season playing hurt, it is constantly being discussed on the radio how the Ravens need to find a No. 1 receiver for Joe Flacco. Ouch! That has to hurt the ego!
As for the draft, until free agency deals are complete and any trades are solidified how is it even possible to guess who and what we need, and exactly what picks we will have?
As I stated, I take it all too personal. I will have to stick with the saying around Baltimore, “in Ozzie we trust”. I will always have a place in my heart for the players that are leaving. I will also make room for those to come. And, I look forward to the end of this nerve wracking offseason!!
