Kellen Moore: Boise State QB Will Amount to Nothing in the NFL
The Boise State Broncos may be losing the most illustrious quarterback the program has ever seen, but the NFL will be gaining a third-string QB who will be out of the league in four seasons.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Kellen Moore will be nothing in the NFL.
Moore has the numbers on paper to impress any scout, but the NFL is not won on paper. With over 3800 passing yards each of his last two seasons and over 3400 the first two seasons as a starter, there is no question he had the college game down pat.
But with 300-pound defensive linemen attacking him every play, there is no chance for the 6’0” tall QB to get away. We can’t forget he ran an abysmal 4.94 40-yard dash time at the combine.
Bleacher Report draft expert Matt Miller reported about one of Moore's tendencies that will make him an undrafted free agent:
"Quarterbacks are generally taught to hold the ball ear-level in the pocket so that when they are ready to throw the ball there is no delay caused by raising the football. Moore doesn't do this. He drops the ball when he takes his drop step.
"
Moore and his mechanics are a dream for a pass-rushing defensive end or an outside linebacker. With the ball being down low before he winds up and slings it, it leaves the ball exposed to the attacking defender for much longer. It’s the extra time that it takes Moore to get the ball where it needs to be to make NFL throws that will allow the coverage team to read the QB’s eyes and make him pay with tipped passes and interceptions.
As much as teams think they can turn any QB into a potential star, even the Bill Belichick and Andy Reid-caliber coaches can’t turn Moore into a viable NFL backup.
I can see him getting a job on a losing team for a few seasons before putting his four-year degree from Boise State to good use.
