With so many people making mock drafts and putting in their input as to who they think should be the top pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, it got me wondering what the Bleacher Report community thinks should be the Miami Dolphins' next victim.
So who do you think should be the first pick?
I will give you the specifics on three players who are thought to be in the running for the top pick, along with the professional opinion on these players.
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
He is thought to be the most athletic player in this year's draft and was twice the runner-up for the Heisman Award.
Over his final two seasons as a Razorback, he ran for 3,477 yards, and ran for over 100 yards 22 times in his college career.
At the combine, he went beyond impressing the scouts, running a 4.33 40-yard dash.
Experts question his ability to lower his shoulder and run through a defender. Also, the Dolphins already have Ronnie Brown, who has been impressive since coming into the league just a few years ago.
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
After hoisting the BCS Championship trophy for the LSU Tigers, Dorsey got right on the train towards a top pick in the NFL Draft.
He fits right into the Dolphins three-four defense, considering that he is such a large player and can jump right in as a the nose tackle and the anchor to their defensive line.
He won the Outland, Lombardi, and Nagurski awards as well as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award during his senior year.
In 2006 he had a leg injury that could make teams shy away from him, but most believe that it shouldn't be an issue.
Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
The Dolphins were beyond horrible at the quarterback position last season. They went through multiple players that would be lucky to be third-string on some teams.
Matt Ryan could be the answer to that problem. He was extremely consistent throughout his senior season, and most teams love his professionalism.
In fact, after an interview with the Kansas City Chiefs, Carl Peterson said, "Now that's what a first-round pick should look like and sound like."
Some people think that he is the poor man's Peyton Manning, and the Miami Dolphins could be just that poor man.
So, Bleacher Report, who is #1?

Must - Must - Must be McFadden first pick. Jerry wants him. If we pick him not only are we getting the next greatest back - better then Peterson - with an arm that would beat out most qbs, but, Jerry would give us everything we are asking for and Barber - allthough not on McFadden's level will fill in nice with brown. Jerry will do it because his son wants McFadden and don't we allways want to make our kids happy! If not we have one heck of a back in McFadden and I cn live with paying him the big bucks - he's worth every penny!

Adrian Peterson is bigger and stronger than McFadden and is just as fast. McFadden is good, although, some don't think that he is the best back in the draft. They believe he doesn't have the lower body strength to even be an every down back. They could be right... watch the tape, he gets tackled way to easy. When I look at McFadden it reminds me of Reggie Bush. Really elusive but can't take a pounding.

There was talk of a trade sending Barber and both first round picks to Miami for the #1 overall pick, but with Barber not signing yet nothing has been said in awhile. Jerry would be idiotic to do this trade, but he's done questionable moves in the past, so put nothing past him. I don't see it happening though. The money shelled out to the first overall pick is too much for Dallas to afford. Plus, I'd take Barber or Peterson over McFadden anyday. The only reason rumors have even come up is because it's Arkansas. If McFadden went to any other college you wouldn't hear any talks of this trade. Also, Barber is such a fan favorite, and many people still haven't forgiven Jerry for firing Tom Landry and pushing out Tex Schramm some 20 years ago, and that was pretty much a necessary move, as much as I hate to say it. But trading Barber is not a necessity, and people would NEVER forgive Jerry for trading him. There's some things that you have to go with the fans on, and this would be one of them.

TUNA LANDS FERGUSON
The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys will trade defensive tackle Jason Ferguson to the Miami Dolphins.
The two teams will swap sixth-round picks in 2008, and Miami will send its 2009 sixth-rounder to Dallas.
Ferguson suffered a season-ending injury in Week One of the regular season, and was regarded as expendable. Miami V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells drafted him to join the Jets in 1997, and then signed him as a free agent in 2005.

You mention three good prospects in the upcoming draft but I feel that the Dolphins if they can't trade out of the 1st overall pick it will be:
1) QB Matt Ryan - If they're convinced that John Beck isn't the answer and are after a QB of the future. The Dolphins could still sign a free agent to hold down the spot until Ryan is ready if that is the route the team chooses.
2) LT Jake Long - Appears to be the best LT in draft deep in LT's and a safe pick. He lfits a need ooks ready and can man the spot for the next 10 years.
3) DE Chris Long - He is one of the best prospects in this draft and has played in a 3-4 defense the prefered defense of the Tuna and played for a caoch who is a former Bill Parcells assistant.
I don't think that Darren McFadden is a consideration for the 1st overall and if the Dolphins chose him they would have over $100 million tied up in the RB position between him and Ronnie Brown with several other needs to fill. I agree with the statement Adam made McFadden does remind me of Reggie Bush in a sense. He is a good back but his highlights aren't as good as Reggie Bush but they're similar type players. He is NOT Adrian Peterson and people need to stop comparing the two. AP is bigger, has better vision, has better cutting and change of direction skills than McFadden a big plus in the NFL and helps to avoid the huge hits that McFadden will take. He doesn't exclusively carry the ball in his left arm.

I must correct myself here The Dolphins did recently sign QB Josh McNown as their veteran who will hold down the fort until the QB of the future is ready.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported that Josh McCown will "definitely" be Miami's number 2 quarterback because Miami management is really high on John Beck. He said the Dolphins will now most likely draft a quarterback in the first 3 rounds to compete with Beck to start.

I wish the Darren McFadden naysayers would at least let the man play one goddamn pro down before they decide whether or not he's in the league of Adrian Peterson....Geeze.

Jake Long is the best value pick here, on average Offensive Linemen have been the least likely picks of completely fall apart. Not taking him here is like not taking a QB in the 1984 draft, there are so many good ones that you are going to look silly for passing on the best of the bunch.
Miami needs help on the line, and Jake Long is the kin of player you can really build around. Also, you know BP is going to want to run the ball.
I think the fins will leverage Jason Taylor as trade bait to get a system type QB in a trade.
I wouldn't even be that surprised to see this pick traded out in a move with Taylor to get some more pieces for the 3-4 conversion and bolstering the defense.
Matt Ryan is a possibility here too, The fins need a QB, and it isn't like a rookie signal caller is going to hurt this team next year.

How bout Dennis Dixon, the poor man's Vince Young? :-) Realistically though, I would vote that they go with Matt Ryan.

Dennis Dixon can't polish a first-rounders shoes. His injury problems far outweigh his upside and he is just not worth it. poor mans troy smith is more like it.
