St. Louis Rams: Tuesday's Rams News and Notes at Noon
Welcome to Tuesday's St. Louis Rams "News and Notes at Noon" the one-stop daily destination for all major Rams updates and other related information.
Major League Owners Will Vote on L.A. Dodgers Bidding Today
According to the following tweet from Liz Mullen of sportsbusinessjournal.com, MLB owners will vote today regarding the sale of the storied baseball franchise:
"SBD Morning Buzz: MLB owners today will hold a conference call to vote on the three surviving bids for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"
Pro Football Talk reports that NFL cross-ownership issues would have to be addressed, according to NFL Commissioner's Roger Goodell's statements on March 26 as reported in the aforementioned column:
"I have told Commissioner Selig this, if [Kroenke] is ultimately the winning bid, then we would immediately move with our committees and our membership to have the discussion. So we would move as quickly as possible knowing that it is an important issue for baseball.
"
This came as a surprise to many, as it had been thought by most that no cross-ownership issues would arise unless a team were to attempt to move to L.A., since no NFL team is currently playing in the city.
However, as Goodell stated yesterday as shared by this column from Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the league considers L.A. "... a league market."
Before St. Louis fans flip out, it is important to remember that the NFL already worked out a similar issue when Kroenke bought the Rams.
At that time, the NFL adjusted its cross ownership rules for Kroenke, who has owned an NBA team (the Denver Nuggets) and NHL team (the Colorado Avalanche) in a city with an NFL team (the Denver Broncos).
Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times shared his take on the matter and expresses some solid analysis and background info on the matter here.
Danny Amendola's Likely Return Could Be the Key to Bradford's Resurgence
Earlier today, I posted a piece regarding the imminent return of the diminutive Danny Amendola, who served as then-rookie Sam Bradford's security blanket in Bradford's Rookie of the Year campaign in 2010.
Amendola hauled in 85 passes that year, and I analyze the impact that his almost certain return could bring to the Rams in the above-linked column.
Evaluating the Signing of Wide Receiver Steve Smith
As most of you know, the Rams agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Steve Smith yesterday.
Mike Sando of ESPN analyzes the future of Smith and looks at whether Smith will be able to completely shake his 2010 knee injury.
If he can return to the form that saw him haul in 107 receptions in 2009, the Rams will have indeed made a terrific acquisition via the NFL Free Agency period.
2012 NFL Draft: Defensive Tackles
With the release of defensive tackles Fred Robbins and Justin Bannan, the defensive tackle position is one that will likely be addressed by St. Louis in the upcoming NFL Draft, even after the free agent addition of defensive tackle/end Kendall Langford.
In this clip, Tony Softli and Howard Balzer of 101sports.com take a look at the prospects available in the soon-coming draft.
Some defensive tackles who would compliment Langford well would include Dontari Poe, Alameda Ta'amu and Brandon Thompson.
