Detroit Lions Mock Draft: Complete 7-Round Analysis

Ross ReadJun 7, 2018

The Detroit Lions had their first winning season since 2000, and their first 10-win season since 1995. The team's improvement on their 6-10 record just the season before shows they are going in the right direction.

Although their subsequent elimination in the Wild Card Round was disappointing, the team has a bright future ahead of them. Their core group including Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh have all come through the NFL draft showing their strong skill to draft intricate pieces to their team.

There are still plenty of team needs going forward. Here is a complete seven-round mock draft of the Detroit Lions.

First Round, CB Janoris Jenkins

1 of 6

Janoris Jenkins has amazing talent. He was a standout cornerback at the University of Florida until problems off the field led to his dismissal from the team. He transferred to North Alabama where he has stayed relatively quiet. He has top 10 talent, but his questionable character has him falling this far.

The Lions need secondary help. The final game of the regular season and one game in the playoffs against the Saints prove they can use a quality corner. If he is here, look for the Lions to look past his issues and draft him.

Second Round, S George Iloka

2 of 6

The renovation of the secondary continues will the ball hawking George Iloka. Listed at 6'4'', 225 pounds, he has the size to cover both receivers and tight ends from the safety position. He also makes solid plays in the run game at the line of scrimmage.

In the first two rounds the Lions are able to address their largest need: secondary help.

Third Round, C/OG Ben Jones

3 of 6

The Lions starting interior offensive line has a combined 24 years of NFL experience, with center Dominic Raiola leading the way with 11 years in the league. Ben Jones would come in and serve as a backup to the aging linemen until he is ready to take over for Raiola at center.

Fourth Round, WR/KR Joe Adams

4 of 6

Stefan Logan is an average, at best, return man. It would be nice to help out the team's high flying offense by giving them a short field every now and then.

Joe Adams did struggle in the combine by not running as fast as most would have thought. He also is small in stature (5'11'', 179 pounds) but has game breaking ability. His four punt returns, including the YouTube sensation against Tennessee, are proof he can still change a game at the next level.

Get him on turf eight times a year and he could prove to be a valuable pick.

Fifth Round, LB Nathan Stupar

5 of 6

Late rounds are all about depth and special teams. Nathan Stupar is familiar with both roles. While he was a standout starter for Penn St. last season, he worked his way up to that role by playing backup and special teams in seasons before that.

The five-year player for the Nittany Lions has a strong work ethic and high motor. He will fit in well serving various roles for the Detroit Lions.

Seventh Round, RB Lance Dunbar

6 of 6

The Lions have had issues with running backs the last couple years. They can never have a group of healthy ones on the roster. Lance Dunbar would provide extra security for Jahvid Best and Mikel Leshoure who are both returning from injuries. Dunbar is a low-to-the-ground, durable runner with surprising power for his 5'8'' 205-pound frame.
