NFL Draft 2012: 7 WRs Who Will Help the Chicago Bears Immediately

Ross ReadJun 7, 2018

The Bears were off to a hot start last season before Jay Cutler got hurt. His season-ending thumb injury sent the team into a tailspin where they lost five of their last six games. Out is GM Jerry Angelo and Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz. In is Phil Emery and Mike Tice. If Chicago wants to keep up with the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions they are going to need to put more weapons around Cutler. Here are seven guys they might look at in this year's draft.

Alshon Jeffrey, South Carolina

1 of 7

There are some concerns about Alshon Jeffrey but there is no doubt the talent is there. During a season where the Gamecocks had quarterback issues he still managed eight touchdowns. Concerns with his fluctuating weight, slow speed and inability to get separation from defensive backs has some teams concerned. He was also ejected in has last game as a pro due to a fight on the field. At 6'4'' he still has the ability to be a big time player in the NFL. He should be there when the Bears draft in the first-round and expect them to take a long look at him.

Michael Floyd, Notre Dame

2 of 7

He is the perfect combination of size and speed. Standing at 6'3'' 218lbs, Michael Floyd has the chance to be the big target Jay Cutler has been missing since he played with Brandon Marshall in Denver. His hands may be his attribute. He caught 100 balls last season with nine touchdowns and did not have a drop until late in the season. He has the talent to be a number one receiver and a top 10 pick, but character concerns could see him fall to the Bears at 19.

Dwight Jones, North Carolina

3 of 7

Not too many people are talking up Dwight Jones. Maybe it's because North Carolina is not a powerhouse football school. They should be though. Over 80 receptions, 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns is a very productive season. At 6'3'' 226lbs he has the necessary size to make all the tough physical catches in the NFL. He also has a sneaky ability to stretch the field. He should be around in the second round and could be a quality weapon for years to come.

Rueben Randle, LSU

4 of 7

Rueben Randle is not on many people's radar because of the offensive struggles LSU had against Alabama twice. His receptions were not high but he proved to be a very valuable red zone target with eight touchdowns. His strength is running short routes and being able to move the chains. For his size, 6'4'' 205 lbs., he should get more separation from defensive backs down the field than he does.

If the Bears decide to go a different route in the first round and address their needs for a number one receiver in free agency, Randle can be the perfect complimentary player in the second round.

Marvin McNutt, Iowa

5 of 7

Very productive season for Marvin McNutt last year. His 82 catches, 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns are very good numbers for a running style offense. He has the speed and size (6'3'', 216 lbs.) to make big plays down field in the NFL. He did struggle against lock down corners putting his stock in the second-third round category. Still with Cutler's big arm he could be a big time threat down the field for the Bears.

Tommy Streeter, Miami

6 of 7

He's strictly a big play down the field guy. Tommy Streeter is not going to be the kind of player who will catch seven to eight balls a game at the next level, but he can be a game changer. At 6'5'' he has a tall lanky frame and blazing speed to get down the field in a heartbeat. The Bears could look to add him in the second or third round as a big play threat and red zone target.

Nick Toon, Wisconsin

7 of 7

You want to make your quarterback and defense happy? Draft a big target who will move the chains on third down. Nick Toon's size is impressive at 6'3'', 217lbs but he doesn't have special speed. Consider Toon a reliable player. He runs solid routes and has good hands. Toon will make a living going over the middle in the NFL and making the tough catches some receivers shy away from. Along with Earl Bennett and number one type receiver, Toon can excel with the Bears. He should be available in the third and maybe even fourth round.
