Peyton Manning Rumors: NFL Scouting Combine Will Verify Colts' Choice to Cut QB

With Peyton Manning due a $28 million bonus on March 8, the Indianapolis Colts have serious question they need to answer. And fast.

When they see Andrew Luck live in action, though, it won’t be long after before the final choice is made.

As much as this move needs to be made as soon as possible, the Colts have to be given credit for taking their time on what could be the second-biggest decision in their franchises’ history. They could be cutting a future Hall of Famer.

Teams that are going to take a shot at Manning when and if he becomes a free agent will be trying to figure out what the backup plan is if they don’t get him. All of the delay from the Colts on making their decision is forcing teams to hold their cards longer than they’re accustomed to.

Indianapolis Star Columnist Bob Kravitz is reporting on twitter about the timeline for the Colts on Manning:

While this is the perfect strategy for Indianapolis, this has to be a worst-case scenario for the team getting ready to be for the star QB.

Not only will the team have to keep an eye on what Peyton does, they have to focus on the draft process and analyze the prospects in case it doesn’t work out. As the hype around Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck grows, the pressure on teams to get Manning will cause a ripple effect in the draft process.

As if the No. 1 overall pick in the draft wasn’t enough, the prospect of letting one of the greatest football players to ever play the game walk away has the Colts at a crossroads. They know how important this decision is.
