You can add one more cover of an Adele song to the heaps burying YouTube in mediocrity. Only, this one is as epic as the English singer.
Offensive lineman Joe Staley and star tight end Vernon Davis sat down and gave the song Someone Like You a go. And it went.
Life is good for the San Francisco 49ers, who were supposed to be looking up at the rest of the NFC West. Instead, they left that rabble in the dust with hard-hitting defense and a dedication to running the ball. Now they are just one of four final teams allowed to smile.
Davis and Staley take on Adele's song with gusto, passion and the voice of two tone-deaf meat heads. In a strange turn, the song is moving beyond belief.
I am moved to tears over here, but that might be tears of laughter as Davis tackles this song like he is in the shower, or in his car stuck in traffic. Those are the only times you belt out these notes with so much force.
The two dominate this song like Andy Reid dominates a double cheeseburger. At one point, Staley has to back away and let awesome sweep over the locker room.
The lineman leans out of view and the camera pushes in on Davis—who sounds like a man who has found his voice for the first time—and we, the audience, are captivated. Such passion and love and lack of talent. It is beyond wonderful.
A wise man once said the best way to spread cheer is singing loud for all to hear. The fact that I consider Buddy the Elf wise and this rendition brilliant should tell you that I put laughs above all other criteria of performance.
Davis and Staley just rocked the hell out of this song, and you are lucky to have witnessed it.
