2012 NFL Draft: 3 Rookies Who Will Make the Biggest Impact

Richard LangfordDec 19, 2011

The following players will be battling each other for 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors. These guys were all big-time playmakers in the college game, and they won't waste any time adjusting to life in the NFL.

They are also projected, in the first-round mock draft below, to go to teams that are in a great position to utilize their talents.

No. 2: St. Louis Rams, WR, Justin Blackmon

Blackmon is just the deep threat the Rams offense sorely lacks. He doesn't have elite speed, but he has decent size, good hops and an impressive natural ability to track the ball that can't be coached.

Blackmon has the talent to go up over defenders to pluck the ball from mid air and his excellent hands allow him to come down with the reception. This will translate well to the NFL.

He will get plenty of targets with St. Louis, and he will turn several of those into breathtaking big plays. It will take him a while to adjust to the nuances of the position in the NFL, but he he will be a playmaker from his first snap.

No. 4: Cleveland Browns, RB, Trent Richardson

Trent Richardson is as complete a running back as you are going to find coming out of college. He is good on first downs and is excellent in short yardage. He is also a superb blocker and a solid receiver out of the backfield.

That means Richardson will not have to leave the field in any situation. That will result in lots of playing time and touches.

Richardson is just as valuable an asset on first down as he is on third and longs, or short yardage situations.

The Browns have a solid offensive line, and they will have plenty of carries available as Peyton HIllis is all but assured not to return. Richardson will be the featured back and he will not disappoint.

No. 17: Cincinnati Bengals, RB, Lamar Miller

Miller is a speedy and flashy big play back that will fit right in with the Bengals young and talented offense.

Cincinnati has a decent offensive line and running system in place. They are 19th in rushing yards this season, and they will give Miller every opportunity to shine.

Don't expect Miller to be as consistent a runner as Richardson, but he will be good for several big plays running the ball and catching it out of the backfield.
