Stephen A. Smith Responds to LeBron James Denying His Report About Kyrie Irving
Following Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James' denial of a report by Stephen A. Smith, the ESPN personality responded on his radio show Tuesday.
According to Ryan Glasspiegel of The Big Lead, Smith stood by his report that James would be tempted to "beat [Kyrie Irving's] ass" if they were near each other after Irving reportedly requested a trade.
"That was what was told to me," Smith said. "I did not speculate. I did not put that out there. It was told to me. Verbatim. In that manner. Tempted."
On Tuesday, LeBron tweeted, "#NotFacts," and urged Smith to "get another source" in reference to the report.
Smith also said on his show that he spoke to 30 sources regarding the situation between James and Irving.
In addition, he made mention of having information regarding something that happened with LeBron in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics prior to the star's decision to leave Cleveland for the Miami Heat in 2010: "What if I got into the real story about what happened with LeBron James against Boston the spring before he decided to leave Cleveland and take his talents to South Beach? But we don't want to get into that!"
ESPN's Brian Windhorst was the first to report that Irving requested a trade from the Cavs since he no longer has a desire to play alongside James.
Windhorst added that Irving listed the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat as potential destinations.
In three seasons as teammates, James and Irving have reached three consecutive NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, and they won a championship together in 2016.
