Rockets Trade Rumors: Patrick Beverley Drawing Interest from Knicks, Cavs, Bulls

Adam WellsFeb 22, 2017

The Houston Rockets may not be done making moves before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, with Patrick Beverley commanding a lot of attention around the league.

Per ESPN.com's Calvin Watkins, the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers have shown interest in Beverley.

The Cavaliers are the most interesting potential suitor for Beverley, not just because they own the best record in the Eastern Conference (39-16) and have some roster questions with J.R. Smith and Kevin Love injured.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported on Wednesday the Rockets were interested in acquiring Iman Shumpert from the Cavs.

With Beverley now connected to the defending NBA champions, Stein added he is the player Cleveland would want in order to make a deal sending Shumpert to the Rockets happen.

However, Watkins reported the Rockets "have no plans" to deal Beverley before the deadline. They already bolstered their roster by adding Lou Williams from the Los Angeles Lakers for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick on Tuesday, per Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Vertical.

It's not a surprise multiple teams are interested in Beverley or that the Rockets want to keep him. The 28-year-old has been a valuable role player throughout his career and is averaging 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per 36 minutes this season while shooting 39 percent from three-point range, per Basketball Reference.

With the Rockets currently owning the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference with a 40-18 record, their focus has to be on building around their core players for the playoff push. Beverley falls into that category for head coach Mike D'Antoni.
