2012 NFL Mock Draft: Examining the Luxury Picks in the First Round
Not every first-round pick fills a need. Oftentimes teams are in a position to simply grab the best player available or a guy that can be labeled as a "luxury pick," so to speak.
Let's outline the "luxury picks" along with a full mock draft of the first round.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Washington Redskins (trade with St. Louis Rams): Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil, OT, Southern California
4. Cleveland Browns: Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
6. St. Louis Rams (trade with Washington Redskins): Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
This is a semi-luxury pick. The Rams are certainly rebuilding and have holes on their defensive, offensive line and in their receiving corps. However, Richardson is the best player available and represents the future of the backfield.
The team is still confident with Steven Jackson as their primary runner, but Richardson allows Jackson to stay fresh as the former Alabama star is groomed for the days after Jackson hangs up the cleats.
7. Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
8. Miami Dolphins: Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina
9. Carolina Panthers: Michael Brockers, DL, LSU
10. Buffalo Bills: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
11. Kansas City Chiefs: Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College
I've said it a countless amount of times, I'll say it again. Look at the Chiefs roster. There aren't many holes—especially if Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry return to 100 percent from their knee injuries.
They could add a cornerback to replace Brandon Carr, but there's depth at that position in this year's class.
They don't need a linebacker, but a Kuechly-Derrick Johnson tandem is quite a formidable one.
12. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Perry, DE, Southern California
13. Arizona Cardinals: Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
14. Dallas Cowboys: David DeCastro, OG, Stanford
15. Philadelphia Eagles: Fletcher Cox, DL, Mississippi State
16. New York Jets: Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama
17. Cincinnati Bengals: Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB Alabama
18. San Diego Chargers: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina
19. Chicago Bears: Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia
20. Tennessee Titans: Zach Brown, LB, North Carolina
21. Cincinnati Bengals: Janoris Jenkins, CB, Alabama
With Adam Jones, Nate Clements and Leon Hall the Bengals have three above-average cornerbacks on their roster. However, Hall suffered a tear in his Achilles tendon—typically a devastating injury that has a lasting effect on a player.
Jenkins will be used in a situational role in 2012, but beyond next season, he'll be a major part of the secondary rotation and will give defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer a great deal of flexibility in the future.
22. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta): Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
23. Detroit Lions: Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa
25. Denver Broncos: Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
26. Houston Texans: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
27. New England Patriots (from New Orleans): Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
28. Green Bay Packers: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
29. Baltimore Ravens: Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse
30. San Francisco 49ers: Kevin Zeitler, G, Wisconsin
31. New England Patriots: Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois
32. New York Giants, Kelechi Osemele, OL, Iowa State
