Jeremy Lin's Shocking Talents Prompt NBA to Air Games in China
Jeremy Lin has made thousands of fans in New York after his past three games, combining for 76 points and 25 assists while leading the Knicks to three straight wins.
Well, apparently that stardom has reached far beyond New York.
Via the Chicago Sun-Times, the NBA said Thursday that Asian TV partners have added Knicks games to their broadcast schedules.
As the first American-born NBA player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent, Lin has inspired Sina in China, ESPN Philippines and numerous Taiwan stations to start airing his games.
Sina will broadcast Friday's game against the Los Angles Lakers, ESPN Philippines will air Feb. 17's game against the New Orleans Hornets, and Taiwan will televise games this month against Toronto, Sacramento, New Orleans, New Jersey and Atlanta.
Soon after Yao Ming retired, you're looking at a player in Lin who is having the same affect overseas and has become a media magnet in New York City.
Lin has inspired the term "Linsanity" in the last three games and has become a fan favorite in New York. While the Knicks have been without Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Baron Davis, Lin has improbably sparked them to victories over the New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards.
Hey, not bad for an undrafted player.
Who knows how the Jeremy Lin Saga will unfold throughout the season, but one thing we can say is that he's become an underdog to cheer for, defying odds one game at a time while he looks to make his imprint on the NBA.
No pressure Jeremy, the whole world is watching.
