Cubs Set Team Record With Historic Unanswered Run Streak Over Last 3 Games

The Chicago Cubs set a franchise record this week by scoring 30 unanswered runs, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com.

The Cubs got the job done over a three-game stretch this week.

Chicago scored 19 runs in the final seven innings of a 19-2 road win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, including five in the third and nine in the ninth. Ian Happ and Pedro Ramirez each hit homers and drove in five runs.

The Cubs then headed to Arizona and shut out the Diamondbacks 7-0 on Monday, with Michael Conforto leading the way thanks to a homer on a 3-for-3 day.

Chicago then scored the first four runs against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, with Happ's three-run homer starting that effort. However, Arizona scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth for the 5-4 comeback win.

The record for most unanswered runs in a game during the modern era (dating back to 1901) is 30, set by the Texas Rangers on Aug. 22, 2007 against the Baltimore Orioles in a 30-3 win (that is also the mark for the most runs scored in a single game in the modern era as well).

The Pittsburgh Pirates notably scored 37 consecutive runs over a seven-game span in June 1903 that also included six shutouts.

In the present date, the 76-57 Cubs lead the major leagues with 695 runs. They sit second in the NL Central, 5.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Chicago will finish its three-game set with Arizona on Wednesday before heading home to host the Cincinnati Reds for three more contests beginning Friday.
