Peyton Manning: Breaking Down the Best Fits for Peyton Manning

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

Almost every team in the NFL would be interested in Peyton Manning if he were to become available.

Not the New York Giants; they have their own Manning. Not the New England Patriots; they have some guy named Tom Brady.

Not the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints or Green Bay Packers; they all have Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks also.

But those six teams and quarterbacks, Peyton and the Colts included, account for the last eight Super Bowl rings and will win a ninth this season.

The last time a Brady, Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger or Rodgers didn't win the Super Bowl was in 2002, when Brad Johnson "helped" the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win Super Bowl XXXVII.

It is safe to say the rest of the league would not only love to add No. 18, with the exception of a few other franchises heavily invested in young quarterbacks, but need to add him.

But where would Peyton Manning fit best?

Indianapolis Colts

Peyton's current team is not close to competing for a Super Bowl right now. They have the No. 1 pick in the draft and a number of holes to fill.

No. 18 obviously wants to finish his career where he started it, but unless the Colts trade away the top pick, it would be a waste of both his and the Colts' time.

The Dolphins are in desperate need of a QB, and their owner, Stephen Ross, would love it to be Peyton.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post writes:

"

Ross isn't allowed to publicly comment on Manning, since he's under contract with the Colts - that would be tampering and could cost the Dolphins a draft pick - but high-ranking team sources said Saturday that Ross badly wants a franchise quarterback, and Manning is at the top of his wish list. Flynn and Robert Griffin, who's forgoing his final year of eligibility at Baylor to enter April's NFL Draft, also qualify as franchise quarterbacks in Ross' opinion, but neither has the credibility or star appeal of Manning.

"

Miami actually has some pieces in place and an improving offensive line to stick Peyton behind.

They have a No. 1 wide receiver in Brandon Marshall and a number of other exciting players like Reggie Bush, Cameron Wake and Vontae Davis to build with.

Peyton would make this team an immediate playoff contender, and possibly more if they added a few more pieces.

Much like the Dolphins, the Redskins desperately need to find a quarterback this offseason.

Owner Daniel Snyder has never been afraid to splash the cash before, and landing Peyton would be the most high-profile move of his tenure as owner.

The Redskins have some young pieces to be excited about, and they also have a Super Bowl-winning coach in Mike Shanahan.

Moving to the NFC East would also set No. 18 up for a nice rivalry with brother Eli at least twice a season.

Gang Green has a quarterback that the city and fans love to hate. Mark Sanchez is only going into the fourth season of his career and can't catch a break despite helping the team to back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances.

The minute rumors of Peyton's possible availability came out, the Jets were mentioned as a potential landing spot.

The Jets and their fans always think they are the best opportunity for everyone, but the last time they opted for a veteran signal-caller, it didn't work out too well.

Other Contenders

The Kevin Kolb trade was a mistake, and they know it. Unlike the Jets, Arizona had great success the last time they added a veteran signal-caller.

A very young team missing only a franchise signal-caller.

This team is more likely to address their QB need in the draft, and it is unlikely Peyton would want to go to Cleveland.
