NFL Power Rankings: Each Team's Player with the Most Swag
If someone were to walk up to you in the street and list off names like: Ray Lewis, Chad Ochocinco or DeSean Jackson, the first thing that would come to mind is how successful these players are. It could be Lewis constantly shutting down any play his opponents run, or Jackson's crazy plays that help the Eagles win.
The one thing the three players listed above all have in common though is their swag. Swag in the NFL has to do with how well one can perform in style.
There are players like Haloti Ngata on the Ravens who are successful but their swag does not compare to that of Ray Lewis who will make a play and make sure he always does something to make himself look good, whether it is during or after the play.
With that, let's take a look at the players with the most swag for each team in the NFL. As always, feedback is welcome. Enjoy!
32) Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan
Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images
"Matty Ice" Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons led his team to a great 13-3 season last year, which came to a quick end as he lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Although he has yet to win a ring, the young quarterback will be around for a long time, as the nickname stated earlier comes from his ability to perform under pressure. As for how much swag he has, it is not much, so what does that say about the Falcons as a whole?
31) Washington Redskins: Brian Orakpo
The Washington Redskins are a team in recovery mode. And the thing is, they don't really have many players with swag in the crimson and white. Who they do have with some swag is Brian Orakpo.
When he's not sacking quarterbacks, Orakpo sponsors the Geico insurance company by starring with the Caveman in some commercials. Check out this video as he completely "orakpoed" quarterbacks like Brett Favre, Matt Schaub and Aaron Rodgers.
30) Cincinnati Bengals: A.J. Green
Joe Robbins/Getty Images
The rookie out of Georgia has yet to disappoint this year as he and Andy Dalton have become a great duo in the AFC North.
While Dalton's skills are not the highest, Green looks like he is going to be a dominant receiver in the NFL. Watch here as Green abuses a Bills cornerback with some flashy play.
29) Seattle Seahawks: Marshawn Lynch
Jonathan Ferrey/Getty Images
Like the Falcons or the Redskins, the Seahawks don't really have players with swag on their team anymore. The one player who still has some serious swag left over from last season though, is running back Marshawn Lynch.
Last year during the wild card round of the playoffs, he made this great run to put away the then-defending champion New Orleans Saints. That run was enough to land him on this list.
28) Cleveland Browns: Peyton Hillis
Matthew Stockman/Getty Images
This hard-nosed running back was cursed by his appearance on this year's cover of Madden.
That same curse has landed him on this list, as gracing the cover of one of the most popular games definitely means you have swag.
27) Oakland Raiders: Darren McFadden
Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
The Raiders' franchise player is one of the best running backs in the game today. Similar to Chris Johnson, McFadden is able to make great use of his speed, but he is also not afraid to try and power his way through defenders.
While he may not have Gus Johnson saying he has "get-away-from-the-cops speed" (stay tuned for that slide!), he definitely has a certain amount of swag when he plays.
26) New Orleans Saints: Darren Sharper
Matthew Sharpe/Getty Images
If he were still on the team, this slide may have been about Kim Kardashian's former boy-toy Reggie Bush, but he has moved onto a worse team as he and the Dolphins fell to 3-8 against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
With that, the next player with the most swag on the Saints gets mentioned in this article, and that is Darren Sharper.
Sharper has the reputation of being one of the best safeties in the league, whether it is his ability to find the ball or lay ball carriers out. Check out this big hit he put on New England's Kevin Faulk two years ago.
25) Jacksonville Jaguars: Maurice Jones-Drew
Jason Miller/Getty Images
Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the best running backs in the league. The 5-foot-7 back takes advantage of his small size by overpowering defenders to the point where it is extremely difficult to wrap him up.
It is in those moments when Jones-Drew kicks into overdrive and makes great plays like this one where he finishes it with a great celebration like insulting Cleveland fans about LeBron James.
24) Tennessee Titans: Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson has not been much of a factor this season, the result of holding out for a more lucrative contract, but he still has the most swag on the Titans.
His quickness is one of the reasons why it is practically impossible for defenders to bring him down, and if you leave him in the open field, you get what we hear in the video.
The play in the video is just one of many where Johnson embarrasses defenders.
23) San Diego Chargers: Antonio Gates
Stephen Dunn/Getty Images
For years, Antonio Gates has been a dominant tight end in the NFL. His ability to go up and get the ball or extend plays using his power are a few of the many reasons why he is such a great player.
It is this success that makes him so loved and hated by fantasy owners as he could easily have a monster game by being such a big and successful target in the red zone.
22) Houston Texans: Andre Johnson
Chris Graythen/Getty Images
It has not been the healthiest of seasons for Andre Johnson. Even though he has struggled to make it back onto the field since September, Andre Johnson's performance has spoken for itself.
Not only can he make spectacular catches, he can also put defenders in their place when they get "chippy." Click here to watch his throw-down with Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan.
21) Indianapolis Colts: Dwight Freeney
Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images
For years, Dwight Freeney has made life a living hell for offensive linemen. Whether it is his spin move or his ability to dominate with a bull rush, he always seems to be making plays.
Not only does he make plays, he makes sure the play does not end in any ordinary way; he lays down the hammer and makes sure the opponents know it. Click here and check out this sack he had in the Super Bowl two years ago.
20) Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry
Doug Pensinger/Getty Images
Eric Berry may have not seen much of the gridiron this season due to a torn ACL, but his commercial leading up to this season and his past play have spoken for themselves. Click here to watch Berry's commercial for the adiZero cleat, which is advertised as the lightest cleat ever.
Unlike Orakpo's performance in the Geico commercial, Berry's appearance involves one with much more swag. If you'd rather let Berry's play do the talking, check out this big hit he put on St. Louis' Danny Amendola.
19) Chicago Bears: Julius Peppers
Scott Boehm/Getty Images
18) Denver Broncos: Tim Tebow
Garrett Ellwood/Getty Images
17) Miami Dolphins: Brandon Marshall
Marc Serota/Getty Images
One thing's for sure, though, no matter what he does, he adds swag to it. If you want to see what I am saying for yourself, check out these Brandon Marshall highlights.
16) Buffalo Bills: Steve Johnson
Over the last two seasons, Steve Johnson has burst onto the scene as one of the top receivers in the NFL.
Last season he made a statement after scoring a touchdown a la Chad Ochocinco (hint: he will be featured later, can you guess his rank?) by lifting his jersey and showing his undershirt which said, "Why so Serious?"
Swag like that is definitely one of the things that makes the NFL so entertaining even when it features bad games like the Bengals vs. Bills, and for that celebration and several other great plays, Steve Johnson makes it onto my list.
15) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: LeGarrette Blount
After losing the first game of the season and missing out on a lot of the season during his final year in college, LeGarrette Blount was able to rebuild his reputation when he entered the NFL.
Starting last year, Blount has been making many plays where he just oozes with swag as he breaks tackle after tackle and even has the ability hurdle over people.
Watch here as Blount hurdles over an Arizona defender to gain more yards after already avoiding being brought down in the backfield last season.
And if that's not enough to convince you, watch this play from just a few weeks ago against the Green Bay Packers.
14) New York Giants: Victor Cruz
Patrick McDermott/Getty Images
In the last three months, Victor Cruz has arguably become the Giants' top player. His great plays have helped put his team in position to have a chance at making the playoffs after not making it into the postseason last year.
Unlike most receivers, Cruz cannot just have a normal touchdown receptions, as there always needs to be a spectacle when he scores.
Check out this video from Sports Science as they break down a spectacular catch by Cruz against the Seahawks earlier this year. Not only did Cruz make a great catch on that play, he made part of his audition tape for "Dancing with the Stars" during his celebration.
13) Dallas Cowboys: Dez Bryant
Tom Pennington/Getty Images
Dez Bryant is one of those rare cases where he has a lot of swag on the field, but may just have too much off the field. Before the start of this season, Bryant tried to have too much swag in a mall as he was kicked out for having his pants sag too low.
Bryant's play on the field is great as it seems he has at least one highlight a game. Watch here as he wanted to have shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis put on him after making a great grab against Antonio Cromartie during Week 1 of this season.
12) Minnesota Vikings: Jared Allen
Hannah Foslien/Getty Images
The established pass rusher Jared Allen has been flying under the radar this season as he has already recorded 13.5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. His performance on the field is incredible to watch as he destroys offensive linemen, and makes sure he saves some for the quarterbacks as well.
Even after he destroys an offense, Allen makes sure to entertain the crowd by putting together his little sack dance. Click here and watch as he composes all three into several "swag-full" plays.
11) Detroit Lions: Ndamukong Suh
Leon Halip/Getty Images
Ndamukong Suh may be the dirtiest player in the NFL today, exemplified by his being ejected during this year's game on Thanksgiving, but he definitely has some swag when it comes to the way he plays.
The 2010 second overall pick has transformed the Lions defensive line and is quite possibly one of the most feared defensive tackles in the game today.
10) Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers
Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images
Sure, Aaron Rodgers may not have a video on YouTube where he breaks his leg and scores a 90-plus yard touchdown, but he has been one of the main reasons why the Packers have done so well over the last year and a half.
His precise passes have led them to one Super Bowl victory and now 12 weeks through the season, he is only eight more wins away from joining the 1972 Miami Dolphins in Perfectville.
Also, last season, Rodgers brought some of wrestling to the NFL as he celebrated touchdowns by showing off his "belt." Check out this State Farm commercial as they make fun of Rodgers' celebration.
9) Pittsburgh Steelers: James Harrison
Justin K. Aller/Getty Images
Over the last few years, James Harrison has been made out to look like a monster, especially after his monster hit on Cleveland's Mohamed Massaquoi.
Harrison is a great player who solidifies the kind of mentality it takes to play a game like football. He is aggressive and not afraid to make big plays, and in a game like football, if a player is "too" aggressive then there must be a problem.
Anyway, the kind of plays that Harrison makes and the way he does them are definitely worthy of making it onto this list.
8) New York Jets: Santonio Holmes
Nick Laham/Getty Images
When he's not catching game-winning touchdown passes for the New York Jets, Santonio Holmes is coming up with new celebrations.
Last season, when the Jets defeated the Cleveland Browns with 20 seconds left in overtime, Holmes turned himself into an actual jet and started flying around the field.
That celebration carried on through the playoffs and into this year as the Jets look to make the playoffs for a third year in a row and finish what they started.
7) St. Louis Rams: Brandon Lloyd
Matt Sullivan/Getty Images
The wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams is a very versatile man. Not only can he make great plays like this one against the Ravens, but he is also a talented rapper.
Lloyd did a song called "Heavy," which was featured during the second season of Spike's Blue Mountain State as the theme song for quarterback Radon Randell (played by Page Kenned).
6) Arizona Cardinals: Larry Fitzgerald
Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
This is one of the most clear cut of all the rankings. To be perfectly honest, aside from cornerback Patrick Peterson, the Cardinals are a team without much swag.
Larry Fitzgerald on the other hand, makes up for his team's terrible performance and overall swag by constantly making great plays.
Check out this great catch he makes, showing how much swag he has even in the preseason. And if that catch isn't enough to persuade you, check out his appearance on Sports Science or in this SportsCenter commercial.
5) Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton
Brian A. Westerholt/Getty Images
Sorry Steve Smith, but Cam Newton has taken over as the player with the most swag on the Carolina Panthers. The quarterback built like a fullback picked first in the 2011 NFL Draft can do practically anything.
Over the course of the season, he has shown that he can score by airing the ball out or even running it, and since he has swag, of course he scores in style. Don't believe me, click here.
4) San Francisco 49ers: Patrick Willis
Ezra Shaw/Getty Images
Of the several players to choose from on the 49ers roster, Patrick Willis definitely has the most swag.
Earlier this year, ESPN's E:60 did a great job of profiling Willis' "rags to riches" story as he became the kind of player of he is today.
That story is not even the beginning of Willis' swag though, he has featured his sculpted body in ESPN's the Magazine's "The Body Issue," a body which he has sculpted from a crazy "homegrown" workout featured in this video.
Willis is one of the few people you hear of doing ab workouts as rest, and if you don't think his body and workout regimen have enough swag, check out this video that highlights his great play.
3) Philadelphia Eagles: DeSean Jackson
Nick Laham/Getty Images
DeSean Jackson is one of those players known more for his swag than his play sometimes. The speedy wide receiver always has to put an exclamation point when makes a big play.
Possibly the most famous play by Jackson was last year's punt return against the New York Giants during the Miracle at the New Meadowlands.
Click here to watch the spectacular return as Jackson burst through the Giants punt team and on to victory.
2) New England Patriots: Chad Ochocinco
Jim Rogash/Getty Images
Wide Receiver Chad Ochocinco has not been doing much as a member of the New England Patriots in his first season, but his performances in the past are enough to put him at No. 2 on this list.
Ochocinco is one of the biggest personalities in the NFL as he is known for his great plays and hilarious celebrations like these.
Ochocinco is also a business man, he has several books available, his own iPhone/iPad app and an online store with shirts available for purchase that feature many of sayings.
1) Baltimore Ravens: Ray Lewis
Patrick Smith/Getty Images
The linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens practically invented swag as he is a product of the University of Miami, which may also be known as "Swag University" for those of you who watched ESPN's 30 for 30 called "The U."
Lewis embodies many of the aforementioned swag qualities, as he is a hard-hitting linebacker who always makes sure opponents know it was him that hit them.
