The tight end position has become an important position in most offenses around the NFL. They can be used in the vertical passing game as a big pass catching target or an additional blocker in the run game.

Many stars have emerged at the tight end position such as Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark. Here is a look at a few tight ends that are hot, and some that are not.

Hot: Jimmy Graham

Jimmy Graham has emerged as one of the biggest surprise at the tight end position. Graham is putting up monster numbers this year and leads all of the tight ends in total yards and receptions. He is averaging 87 yards per game and has six touchdown catches this year.

Graham is emerging as another weapon on the Saints offense. He has made many fantasy owners proud as he has been arguably the best tight end in football.

Hot: Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski is a big target for Tom Brady. He has the size and deceptive speed that makes for a great tight end. Gronkowski has 52 receptions for 709 yards this year. He has caught eight touchdowns and will probably add a few more as they season progresses.

Gronkowski has great hands which fits in with the Patriots offense. He also has the ability to make any catch which makes him one of the best fantasy football tight ends in the game.

Cold: Zach Miller

Zach Miller was a great fantasy tight end option while he was in Oakland. He was one of their best and most reliable receivers. Miller left Oakland in the off-season and signed with the Seahawks.

So far, Miller has been very quiet in Seattle. He only has 15 receptions in nine games and averages around eight yards per game. This has been a big disappointment because Miller was emerging as a top tight end in Oakland but has since disappeared in Seattle.

Cold: Marcedes Lewis

Marcedes Lewis had a great season last year for the Jaguars, with 58 receptions for 700 yards. So far, Lewis has been relatively quiet this year for the Jaguars. He has only 23 receptions for 234 yards.

Lewis gives the Jaguars great size and hands at the tight end position. He has been one of their best receiving targets over the past couple of years, but this season has been disappointing for both the Jaguars and Marcedes Lewis.
