NFL Picks Week 10: Road Teams That Will Come Away Winners

Zachary D. RymerNov 12, 2011

I'm typically not one to get too excited about road teams when I sit down to make my picks week in and week out. Beating the spread on the road is certainly possible, but winning outright is a tough trick to pull off.

There are always a few exceptions, of course. After all, it's not like the home teams ever go undefeated in a given week. You just have to know which teams to put your faith (and your money) in.

In Week 10, I like the four road teams listed below to come come away winners.

Baltimore Ravens (-7) at Seattle Seahawks

You hear a lot of chatter about how tough it is to win against Seattle, but you can't take anything for granted with this Seahawks team, no matter where they're playing.

The Seahawks are hosting the Ravens on Sunday, and it's a terrible matchup for them. The Seahawks don't have much in the way of offense, and the Ravens have arguably the best defense in the NFL. The Seahawks are going to have a very hard time putting points on the board, and I actually wouldn't be surprised if the Ravens pitched a shutout.

I'm not entirely sure the Ravens are going to put on a clinic offensively, but they're not going to need to. To win this game, they only need a little. Not a lot.

Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5)

After winning four games in a row to get into the AFC West race, the Chiefs came back to earth in a big way last weekend against the Miami Dolphins. The Broncos, meanwhile, were looking unstoppable against the Oakland Raiders.

My guess is that this is not going to be a pretty game, but I'm looking for the Broncos to repeat the success they had running the football against the Silver and Black. Willis McGahee racked up plenty of yards, and the threat of him running the ball allowed Tim Tebow to successfully rack up yards on zone reads.

You obviously have to be wary of the Broncos running a college offense. But if something ain't broke, you don't fix it. Look for the Broncos to stay on their mini-roll against a weak Kansas City squad.

Broncos 24, Chiefs 21

Houston Texans (-3.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Houston Chronicle reported on Friday that Andre Johnson still isn't ready to return, but that shouldn't worry the Texans too much against the Buccaneers.

Thanks to Arian Foster and Ben Tate, the Texans can do a lot of damage running the football, and they'll be facing a team in the Bucs that has one of the league's worst rush defenses.

On the other side of the field, the Bucs are a mediocre offensive team, which obviously doesn't bode well for them against a great defensive team like the Texans.

Tampa Bay is a tough place to pull out a win, but I think the Texans will be fine.

New England Patriots at New York Jets (-1)

Tom Brady and the slumping Patriots will take their show on the road against the Jets and their stingy defense. It would seem like the Pats are due for another tough loss.

That depends on whether or not the Pats' offensive woes are for real. Given Brady's track record and the weapons he has to play with, I have a hard time believing that they are. This is an offense that is simply too good to be held down for long, and we all know that the Jets are a team that can look inexplicably bad on any given Sunday.

It's a leap of faith, but I'm taking the Pats to win this one.
