Super Bowl Odds: AFC Favored over NFC to Lift the Lombardi Trophy

Jeff GrantOct 24, 2011

The Green Bay Packers may be the defending champions and only undefeated team in the National Football League, but many aren't buying into them winning Super Bowl XLVI inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Oddsmakers have made the AFC minus-130 favorites over the NFC to walk away with the Lombardi Trophy on February 5, 2012.

Green Bay is obviously the team to beat in scoring 230 points on its way to a perfect 7-0 record heading into a bye week.

Bettors are likely finding value in grouping the entire field of AFC contenders together, led by the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots.

The Packers haven't faced a stiff challenge from outside their conference, but that will change when they travel on the road to take on the San Diego Chargers on Nov. 6.

As long as quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains healthy, the franchise will be favored in each remaining game the rest of the way.

It's certainly a surprising betting market due to the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants still having a realistic chance of making noise in the playoffs, possessing quarterbacks that have already won a title.

From a betting perspective, with the game scheduled to be played indoors, you have to like your chances in backing Drew Brees or Rodgers to win it all.

There's definitive value in backing the NFC side at this point in time.
