K-rod is among the available "big three" of free-agent closers.
57. 57 is the number Francisco Rodriguez, or K-rod, wears on the back of his shirt. It is also the record for saves in a season, held by the great White Sox closer Bobby Thigpen. Which teams will be searching for 57, and which team will get him?
Let's get started.
C.C. He's going Yankees. With the money the Yankees want to give him, I can't see him going anywhere else. The Yankees will most likely come back to NYC with a new ace.
Ben Sheets, A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe: Sheets could go anywhere. He is a tough case. All that I know is that he will probably go to a team in contention, and it won't be the Brewers. I can actually see him on the Yankees along with former teammate C.C. Sabathia.
Burnett will not be in New York. He will be in Toronto, Boston, Baltimore, Atlanta or Philadelphia. He has increased talks with Atlanta lately, and I would like to cross off both Boston and Philly from the list, but you never know. I think the two front runners are Atlanta and Baltimore.
Lowe will be a Yankee. The Yanks want him as their five pitcher, and that is where he will be.
Pedro: He's either a Met, or nothing. I con't see him on any team other than them. I think the Mets will offer him another contract with more money and years.
Tex: Mark Teixeira is a huge agent this year. If the Yankees pursue him, he's a Yankee. Otherwise, I don't know who will get him.
Rafael Furcal: A's or Giants for Furcal. Now that the Giants have Rent-a-Train-Wreck, they won't need him. A sleeper on Furcal may be the Bo Sox. They have a gaping hole at short, and Furcal is the perfect size to fit it.
Casey Blake: He is a Twin, if LA can't offer him a big enough contract. I don't think the Dodgers will offer him another contract, so I see him as a Twin.
Raul Ibanez: He could be a Yankee or a Mariner. I would like to see him come back to the M's, but the Yanks could use him in left field or right. Raul has an average arm. If the Yanks offer him a contract, he's a Yankee. The M's won't compete.
Bobby Abreu: I don't know where he'll go. I couldn't see him anywhere but NYC. Maybe the M's, maybe the Dodgers.
Adam Dunn: He could be a Yank. He may also play with Arizona. We'll have to wait and see.
Manny: If you know where he is going, comment. I don't know which team can deal with Manny being Manny, and which team even wants to deal with his behavior.
Big Three Closers; K-rod, Hoffman, Wood: K-rod is going to NYC. I don't know what team for sure, but it's the Mets or Yankees.
Hoffman: Not a Padre. He could be an Indian, or if the Mets can't get K-rod or Wood, they may think about him.
Wood: Not a Cub. He may be the No. 2 option for the Mets. I could see him on the Tigers, who's closers have aged.
What happens in the next few days will affect baseball. Watch, and see what happens.
