NFL Picks Week 6: Vikings Will Get Second Win Versus Struggling Chicago Bears

Nicholas GossOct 15, 2011

The Chicago Bears are a struggling team that badly needs a win to stay alive in a competitive NFC North division, and the reason for their 2-3 start is that they cannot protect quarterback Jay Cutler.

Cutler is taking too many hits in the pocket that is not good for his long term well-being, and if he continues to take a pounding like he has, he won't last to the end of the season.

"(The Vikings) are going to let that front four go to work, and we have to find a way to block them," said Cutler.

The Vikings, meanwhile, have a very good and aggressive defensive line led by All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen.

Minnesota is 1-4 and badly needs a win to have any chance at making the playoffs as the wild card, and one of the only ways for them to beat the Bears is to pressure Cutler early and often.

"I'm sure they're going to do everything possible to fix some of the problems they had on Monday night and during the season. We got to be prepared to adjust to any changes they make," said Vikings coach and former Bears cornerback Leslie Frazier. "We need our pass rush to be working for us."

The pass rush has to be excellent for the Vikings to be successful on Sunday night, and Chicago won't be able to stop their front seven.

Not only will the Bears not be able to block Minnesota's pass rushers, they won't be able to score enough points to beat the Vikings.

Minnesota All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson will get plenty of carries against the Bears defense, and will take the pressure off of quarterback Donovan McNabb, who hasn't been able to finish (or start) games well this season.

The Vikings pass rush combined with a healthy dose of Peterson will be enough to give Minnesota a much needed victory against division rival Chicago.

The Bears won't be able to stop the pass rush of Minnesota, and Jay Cutler won't be able help the Mike Martz offense score enough points to win.
