Tim Tebow: Denver QB Would Ruin John McClane and the Die Hard Franchise
With the news that the incredible Die Hard seriesย is coming out with its fifth movie also comes some veryย disturbingย news surrounding Bruce Willis' character, John McClane, and Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
I never thought I would ever write about those two in the same sentence.
McClane has captured the hearts of action movie lovers all over the world with his gritty attitude, never-say-never approach to life and foul language.
Literally, if you were compile a list of the top 10 action movie heroes of all time, McClane would easily be in the top five.ย
Not only has he not died yet, but he's survived four incredibly intense movies in the process.
McClane is awesome, and the casting of Willis was the perfect fit.
There is no hiding that Willis is getting older, though, and perhaps his days of fighting bad guys and blowing things up are nearing an end.
The natural progression of things with McClane's character would be to pass his legacy on to a son.
Luisa Yanez of the Miami Herold writes more on the transition:
"The fifth movie in theย Die Hardย seriesโto be calledย A Good Day to Die Hardโwill begin filming in January with Bruce Willis in the lead, maybe for the final time.
The movieโs storyline will be significant because its aim is to pass on the successful franchise to a younger actor, who will play action hero John McClaneโs son.
And among the names being floated to play Willisโ son is Denver Broncos quarterback and former Florida Gator Tim Tebow.
The topic of Tebow came up Wednesday when Tom Rothman, co-chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment announced the new film project exclusively on Wednesday on the syndicated sports showย The Jim Rome Show,ย known asย The Jungle.
'What do you think of Tebow in the lead?' Rothman asked Rome and the listening audience. Rome did not give Tebow a thumbs up.
'He might be too nice,' Rome said, referring to Tebowโs wholesome reputation. 'But no one would work harder to make it work.' Rothman says, regardless, he expects many young Hollywood actors to audition for the part. 'We have to find just the right guy.'
"
While it certainly is a funny topic to imagine Tebow as the younger McClain, there is no way that he is the right guy for the part.
Not only would he be a horrible replacement, but he wouldย absolutelyย ruin the Die Hard franchise and the most importantly, the legacy of John McClane.
This is the very same hero who can single-handedly take out scores of bad guys, all the while drinking, cursing, blowing things up and making it look really cool.
No offense to Tebow, but we're not even sure if he can succeed as an NFL quarterback, let alone an action hero.
Truth is, all of this Tebow talk has gone too far.
It was understandable when Denver fans made him the center of attention on the field, but this is just too much.
Thankfully, it just seemed to be more of a joke between Rome and Rothman, but hopefully that's as far as it would go.
Hopefully McClane's legacy will be passed on to a legitimate action hero instead of a wannabe NFL starting quarterback.
Yippie kai-yay, Tim Tebow.
