Week 6 Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Brandon Marshall and 3 WRs to Sit

Zachary D. RymerOct 13, 2011

By my reckoning, there are only two wide receivers in the NFL who are truly reliable. One is Calvin Johnson, and the other is Wes Welker.

As for the others, who knows? There are a lot of really good ones, but you just never know with wide receivers. One week, they're the best thing since sliced bread, and the next week they're nothing.

The good news is that I don't really see any of the league's top-shelf wide receivers struggling in Week 6. However, there are a couple of fringe guys that I think you should move to your bench. If you don't, you're going to be sorry.

Santana Moss, Washington Redskins

Moss is one of these guys who is rarely great, yet always solid. You might expect him to be just that against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend.

I don't think you should be so sure. Talk of the Eagles struggling against the pass has been greatly exaggerated, and they've been particularly tough on opposing wide receivers. In fact, only a couple teams have allowed fewer points to wide receivers than they have.

Besides, the best way to beat the Eagles is to pound away at them on the ground. I expect a light afternoon for Moss.

Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland Raiders

I'm contradicting myself a little bit by putting DHB on this list, as I think he's starting to develop into a reliable wide receiver.

But contradicting myself is absolutely necessary given Oakland's matchup against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Browns have yet to allow a 100-yard receiver this season, and have allowed just two receiving touchdowns.

These facts would spell trouble for any receiver. They spell even more trouble for a fringe guy like DHB.

Mike Thomas, Jacksonville Jaguars

I'm not so sure you should be starting Thomas to begin with, but I guess he's not a bad option in deeper leagues.

My advice is to pick another option to take Thomas' place in your lineup this weekend. He and the Jaguars are going up against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has allowed fewer points to wide receivers than any team in the league.

Some teams and some receivers are good enough to overcome the Steelers. Thomas and the Jags are not.

Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins

Brandon Marshall was a fantasy goldmine in the first two weeks of the season, as he pulled in 13 catches for 218 yards and a touchdown.

Since then, Marshall hasn't done much. And on Monday night against the New York Jets, things are going to get even worse.

For starters, the Jets are very stingy against the pass, and have allowed just one 100-yard receiver this season (Mr. Welker). Secondly, Matt Moore will be throwing the ball Marshall's way.

Or some other way. We really don't know.
