Packers vs. Falcons: Is Matt Ryan NFL's Most Overrated QB?
Sunday night, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan showed why he has a long way to go before he is considered on the NFL's elite signal-callers. While matching up with Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers, the divide between the two was readily apparent to viewers.
While he probably isn't the most overrated quarterback in the NFL (I'm looking in your direction, Tony Romo), Ryan cannot yet claim to be among the league's top guys under-center.
Last night, Ryan completed 18-of-32 passes for 167 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 25-14 home loss to the Packers.

On the season, the Boston College product has completed 120-of-196 passes for 1,302 yards, with seven touchdowns and six interceptions. His quarterback rating of 79.9 is a career-low for him, and it ranks him 20th in the NFL. And the Falcons are just 2-3 to open the season.
Don't get me wrong, I really like Ryan. He's a great kid and has all the tools to be one of the NFL's best quarterbacks. That said, so far this season he has shown that he isn't quite ready for that distinction.
This season the Falcons have surrounded Ryan with a full arsenal of weapons, and for some reason he has struggled to get things going. With receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones, tight end Tony Gonzalez and Michael Turner in the backfield, you'd figure Atlanta would have one of the league's most potent offenses.
But the Falcons currently rank 19th in total yards (338.4 yards per game), and are scoring just 20.8 points per game (21st in the NFL).
Those numbers are extremely disappointing and when an offense doesn't move all responsibility automatically falls on the quarterback.
While Ryan has the ability to be one of the NFL's top quarterbacks, he has not risen to that level yet, and analysts who anointed him the next big thing may have spoken too soon. He's not quite ready for that level of praise just yet.
