Madonna for Super Bowl Halftime Show ? Here Are 5 Better Options

Zack PumerantzOct 3, 2011

As if Janet Jackson's provocative slip wasn't enough for the NFL, they are taking matters to a different level. Fans understand what that means; Madonna is performing the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVI.

With The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince and the Rolling Stones all having been featured at the exhilarated separation in the final game of the football season in the past, it's not surprising to see the league grab another iconic, yet aging rock star to add to its list.

While we know that New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez fancies the entrepreneur, we don't quite agree with the choice.

There are surely other options who can suffice, but where to find them?

Here we look at the five best options for the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show, aside from Madonna.

Enjoy.

5. Lady Antebellum

1 of 5

With a firm, yet iconic name, this group has become a staple in the minds of fans who enjoy country music.

Nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 51st ceremony, and two the next year, Lady Antebellum clearly has the camaraderie to rock the stage.

Performing on "Saturday Night Live" is the ultimate test.

4. Jordin Sparks

2 of 5

She may be known for winning the sixth season of "American Idol" at the tender age of 17, the youngest winner ever, but Jordin Sparks can sure spark up an excited crowd.

Whether it's for her looks for her voice is unknown, but Sparks' single "No Air" sold 4 million copies worldwide, the highest by any "American Idol" contestant.

That deserves an interview at least.

3. Red Hot Chili Peppers

3 of 5

Not only did this group's first commercial album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, sell over 13 million copies, but this Cali-based collection of talented individuals has seven Grammy Award wins, 70 million albums sold worldwide, nine singles in the Top-40 of the Billboard Hot 100, six No. 1 singles and the most No. 1 singles on the Alternative Songs chart at 12.

Now say that seven times fast.

2. Journey

If the NFL wants to increase the amount of bromance in the stands and avoid superfluous fights, they need to approach this iconic group of gentlemen.

Their body of work speaks for itself.

1. Wiz Khalifa

5 of 5

After producing his first album in 2006 and the techno-inspired hit "Say Yeah," things seemed to launch for this free-minded master of chilling.

With unique beats and rhythmic statements, the future looks bright for Wiz Khalifa.

He may have the best name in the business.
