MLB Playoffs 2011: Why Prince Fielder Will Make It Memorable for Brewers

Dan RenfroSep 30, 2011

Prince Fielder is leaving Milwaukee, but he still has one month left.

He's going to make the most of it.

After a terrible postseason performance in 2008, Fielder will be sure to make the most of his final postseason in a Milwaukee Brewers uniform.

Fielder had another great regular season. He batted .299 with 38 home runs and 120 RBI. He played every single game. And he forms one of the best hitting tandems in the majors with Ryan Braun.

He will get pitches to hit, and based on how he's performed for the last six months, he will continue to crush the ball.

If winning wasn't enough to inspire Fielder, he will have to impress his suitors for this winter. If he doesn't perform this October, he will be known for great regular seasons and poor playoff performances.

While that shouldn't hurt his stock too much, it will definitely affect the perception of Fielder. He's a competitor, and he won't want to be known as an October choke-artist.

Athletes have egos. If Fielder has another dud playoff performance, his ego will definitely take a hit. Obviously, he wants to avoid that. Accordingly, his competitive fire should propel him to some monster numbers.

At the end of the day, Fielder owes Milwaukee a good showing. They've supported him for his entire six (and some) year career. After this season, he will leave without looking back.

Still, he has a chance to give Milwaukee the greatest gift he can: a World Series ring. Obviously, the Brewers are far from being the favorites, but they have the firepower to outhit anybody.

It starts with Fielder.

If he can hit like the monster he is, Fielder will give Brewers fans a reason to forgive him for leaving. If he has a LeBron James-esque performance, Fielder won't want to return to Milwaukee after signing his new contract.

As a result, I see Fielder having a monster postseason.

He's coming off one of his best seasons; his performance will be extremely personal and he owes it to Milwaukee. For those reasons, Brewers fans better be excited: Fielder will have a historic October.
