Week 3 Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: 3 Players You Need to Bench

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

A few of the Week 3 matchups present difficulties for players that are usually fantasy lineup staples.

If you have any of the following three guys, be warned that they are on the wrong side of a matchup problem.

Send them to your bench.

Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai

Despite the Colts' horrible offensive start to the season, Joseph Addai has still been solid. He is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and has 103 yards on the season.

Addai is still a decent play in fantasy lineups, but not this week. Addai is going against the Pittsburgh Steelers' stifling run defense.

Addai is going to be most valuable in this contest blocking blitzing Steeler linebackers. While that is invaluable in real football, it does little in the fantasy realm.

New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks

Hakeem Nicks is a very good fantasy receiver. Nicks has 10 catches for 167 yards and one touchdown on the season, and with the Giants unable to get the running game going, he is getting plenty of looks in the passing game.

He probably won't get a lot of looks this week, though.

The Giants are playing the Philadelphia Eagles, and that means Nicks is going to spend the majority of his game lined up against shutdown corner Nnamdi Asomugha.

Asomugha is a fantasy killer. Teams rarely throw his way. Don't expect the Giants to be any different.

Chicago Bears RB Matt Forte

Matt Forte is one of the best dual threats in the league. He can rack up yards and fantasy points in the air and on the ground.

He won't be as big a dual threat next week. The Bears are set to face the Packers.

And if there is one thing this season has taught us, it is that it is best to attack the Packers through the air. Forte's touches in the run game are going to be limited. The Packers are sixth overall in rushing yards allowed at 76 yards per game.
