Fantasy Baseball: Ranking the 5 Best Waiver Wire Pickups to Clinch a Title

0 of 5

For most fantasy baseball leagues, the championship round has arrived and owners are scanning the waiver wire to find a hidden gem that can help propel their team to the title.

Though it’s late in the season, there are still several good options available to be had.  Some of these players can help put a team over the top and win the crown.

Here are the five best waiver-wire pickups for the championship round.

5. Jim Johnson

1 of 5

Jim Johnson has come on strong at the end of the year and is now the Baltimore Orioles' closer.

Johnson is the best option for cheap saves for the championship round, and he should be added if you have a need for saves.

4. Alcides Escobar

2 of 5

Alcides Escobar has quietly put together a solid first year in Kansas City.

Escobar has 24 steals on the season and has been hitting for a higher average since changing his batting stance midseason.

3. Dexter Fowler

3 of 5

Dexter Fowler has been playing great baseball over the past three months.

In that time, Fowler has batted .294 and has started all but one game.

He has 81 runs on the season and will also help a team out in steals.

2. Derek Holland

4 of 5

Derek Holland has put it together this year and has fulfilled some of his promise.

The Texas Rangers are a very hot team, and Holland has helped contribute to their streak.  Pick up Holland and ride out his hot streak.

1. Dee Gordon

5 of 5

Dee Gordon is the best waiver-wire pickup or the championship round.

The young Dodgers shortstop has been running wild since being called up, swiping 21 bases.

Gordon can help a team win steals single-handedly and should be added in all formats.
