Week 2 Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Big Ben Will Get Back on Track
Well, this fantasy football season is already proving to be just as unpredictable as the last.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton passed for 422 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL debut, the Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan didn’t pass for a touchdown and none other than Chad Henne passed for 416 yards against the New England Patriots.
You think this is the end of the madness?
Oh, it’s just beginning.
Here is some guidance as you try to make some sense of it all headed into Week 2 of the NFL season.
Start ‘Em
Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
You figured Big Ben’s numbers would drop a bit against the Ravens in Baltimore, but you certainly couldn’t have expected what transpired on Sunday. Roethlisberger did throw for 280 yards and one touchdown, but he also threw three interceptions.
By the end of the day, the Steelers were trailing the Ravens, 35-7.
Headed into his Week 2 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, however, fantasy owners need not to worry about Roethlisberger. Not only is he going up against a poor secondary, he’s a much better quarterback than what he displayed on Sunday. You don’t sit a star quarterback after just one poor game.
Wanna know how much of an anomaly Big Ben’s performance was against the Ravens? He threw five interceptions all of last season.
Sit ‘Em
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams
Many people expect Bradford to break out in his second season this year. He performed admirably last season as a rookie despite not having much talent around him.
But he completed just 17 of 30 passes for 188 yards and no touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles, and in the process he bruised his right index finger, the same finger he uses to clutch the pigskin.
On top of that, he was sacked a whopping five times behind a concerning offensive line and it looks like he’s not going to have much time to throw this season, anyway. He heads into New York to face a physical Giants defense in Week 2.
He not only could get thrown around, there’s a chance his injury could affect some of his throws.
Pass on Bradford, not with him.
