It’s going to be harmful for the Yankees that Mike Mussina has chosen to retire rather than return to the Yankees next year. I remember when I went to a Yankees game, and Mussina did great.

My First time seeing Mussina was when he pitched against Pedro Martinez—who was a member of the Red Sox at the time. Mussina had that game. Every time Mussina was facing a count in his favor, everyone was calling moose. It’s going to be hard, but when someone is getting old, then it is time to hang the Jersey and the glove.

I saw him twice during the 2008 season, and he did great—like always. He lost against the Reds, but beat the Red Sox—giving up only two runs.

When he gave up two runs against Boston, I knew that it was his last season as a Yankee. It is cool and fun that I have seen one of the best pitchers in Yankees history. He even performed well when moving from the number one spot to the number two guy in that rotation.

It’s going to be hard that he won't be there to pitch in the new Yankee Stadium, and it is hard to think that he is one of only four players to play with the Yankees since 2001—joining Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera.

What I will miss the most is that knuckle curve ball and all the fans chanting moose. He was one of my favorite pitchers to watch and read about. It’s going be hard—similar to how hard it was when Bernie Williams played his last game as a Yankee against the Blue Jays.

If he had came back for two years he would have picked up his 300th win, but it great that his last year as a Yankee he was able to record 20 wins in the regular season. It would have been great if he won the Cy Young Award, but it is time to close the book on one of the great Yankee players.
