Dallas Cowboys: Felix Jones and 4 Standouts from Preseason Week 2

Adam SpencerJun 7, 2018

The Dallas Cowboys didn't look too great against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday night, but there were some bright spots.

Guys like Felix Jones and DeMarcus Ware had good outings, showing that the Cowboys' first unit should be strong this season.

Then there were guys like Martellus Bennett and Josh Brent, who excelled, showing that Dallas is in capable hands if a starter goes down with an injury.

There are still two weeks left in the preseason for others to step up.

But, for now, let's take a look at four standout players from Sunday's 20-7 loss to the Chargers.

4. Josh Brent, DT

1 of 4

Brent, the second-year defensive tackle from Illinois, will be Jay Ratliff's primary backup at nose tackle this season.

He showed some potential by recording a sack against the Chargers.

He'll get some playing time this season, and he'll need to make the most of it if the Cowboys defense is going to improve from a dismal 2010 showing.

3. DeMarcus Ware, OLB/DE

2 of 4

Ware had a sack and two QB hits on Sunday night.

It's good to see that from Ware, who struggled in 2010.

He's one of the premier pass-rushers in the NFL and as he goes, so goes the Dallas defense.

His strong performance gives fans reason to be hopeful.

2. Martellus Bennett, TE

3 of 4

Bennett had three catches for 33 yards on Sunday night.

He kept pace with Jason Witten's three catches, though Witten caught the Cowboys' only touchdown.

Still, Bennett's strong showing gives Tony Romo another offensive weapon.

If he can have a good year backing up Witten, the Cowboys offense just gets that much better.

1. Felix Jones, RB

4 of 4

Jones only got seven touches on Sunday night, but he made the most of them.

On his seven carries, he ran for 56 yards, good for an eight yards-per-carry average.

He showed why he's one of the most electric runners in the league.

He also took a step towards proving he's ready to be a feature back in the NFL. Now, if he can just stay healthy for the full season, the Cowboys are set.
