Daunte Culpepper, Tiki Barber and Clinton Portis: Which NFL Veteran Signs First?
It was definitely surprising to hear that Tiki Barber was coming out of retirement.
However, it was not surprising to hear about the Detroit Lions releasing Daunte Culpepper after they have Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill.
Then we look at Clinton Portis, who was released by the Redskins back in February.
All three have yet to officially sign, but have some leads.
Barber worked out for Miami in early August, and Culpepper for San Francisco on Monday.
However, no bites yet for Portis.
So who signs a contract first?
Read on to find out.
Tiki Barber
1 of 3Although he had a decent workout for the Dolphins, Tiki Barber is 36 years old, and way too old to be playing RB in the NFL.
Miami doesn't have Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown anymore, but they did acquire Reggie Bush.
They also have rookie Daniel Thomas, so chances are slim for Barber.
Personally, I think he's jealous of his brother Ronde.
Daunte Culpepper
2 of 3He was a solid QB during his prime in being selected to two All-Pro teams and three Pro Bowls.
Daunte Culpepper however, has been on the backside of his career since he left Minnesota, so the end is coming close.
That being said, the 49ers are giving him a chance, and it's not too farfetched as QB Alex Smith is flaky, and rookie Colin Kaepernick (out of Nevada) still needs to learn the ropes.
Gut feeling, Daunte Culpepper signs before any of these three.
Clinton Portis
3 of 3The biggest reason no one has pursued Clinton Portis is because he's had some recent injuries that have deterred his career.
He was released in February, but hasn't signed despite all this time to workout on his own.
Thing is, he's turning 30 next month, which we all know is the age milestone for RBs.
And with his injury history, it's unlikely Portis gets signed.
