NFL Preseason: Breaking Down the Injuries for Every NFL Team So Far

Training camps have been going on for just under two weeks and already many star players are out with injuries, and some of those injuries are serious. In this article I will break down all the injuries for every team and how serious those injuries are.

One of the recurring themes in the injury reports this preseason is the Achilles tendon injury. So far 10 players have either ruptured or injured their Achilles tendon. While injuries were expected to be more frequent this season due to the NFL lockout, no one expected this many Achilles injuries.

Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have two injuries to report so far. Both of these players are defensive backs. The less severe injury is to defensive back Michael Adams, who has a knee injury. Adams will be out for the August 11 preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.

The more serious injury is to Adrian Wilson. Wilson tore his right biceps tendon and will miss the rest of the preseason and will be doubtful for the start of the regular season. Wilson will be back in 2011, but don't expect him to be back in Week 1.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons have one injury to report. Newly acquired defensive lineman Ray Edwards underwent a minor knee procedure during the offseason and will be out for the preseason opener against the Dolphins.

Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore has four injuries to report. Tom Zbikowski is out with an illness and Jimmy Smith is out with a groin injury; both are defensive backs. Both players will be questionable for the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Receiver James Hardy is also questionable for the Eagles game. Hardy injured his hamstring in practice. Also out with a hamstring injury is tight end Ed Dickson. He will miss the preseason opener.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have five players out with injuries. Defensive backs Drayton Florence and Justin Rogers each have ankle injuries with Florence being out for the Chicago preseason game. Aaron Williams, also a defensive back, has a hand injury. He is questionable for the Chicago preseason game.

Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard has a hamstring injury that has him listed as questionable for the Chicago preseason game. Receiver Marcus Easley has a knee injury and he too is questionable for the preseason game against the Bears.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have six injured players. Linebacker Jon Beason has tendinitis in his Achilles tendon. He is listed as questionable for the start of the season but head coach Ron Rivera does not view the injury as serious. Another linebacker, Thomas Davis, is questionable for the preseason opener with a foot injury.

Star player Steve Smith dislocated his finger and will be out for the preseason game against the New York Giants. Defensive end Greg Hardy was the victim of a motorcycle accident in which he sustained a side injury. He is out for the preseason game against the Giants.

Defensive tackle Ron Edwards tore his triceps and will be out for the preseason and at least six weeks of the regular season and possibly the whole season.

Quarterback Tony Pike has inflammation in his throwing shoulder and has yet to throw in practice. Pike will miss the preseason game against the Giants and possibly more time after that.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears only have two injuries to report. Linebacker Lance Briggs has suffered a leg injury after colliding with receiver Onrea Jones in practice. No more information is available on the extent of the injury but Briggs will be listed as questionable for the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

Defensive lineman Anthony Adams is out for the preseason with a calf injury.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals have two injuries so far. Linebacker Rodderick Muckelroy suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the start of the regular season. Another linebacker, Keith Rivers, has a undisclosed wrist injury and there is no timetable for his return.

Cleveland Browns

The Browns have three injuries thus far. Receiver Josh Cribbs has a knee injury but it looks like he is going to be ready for the preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Receiver Mohamed Massaquoi has a cast on his leg and has a reported "bone injury." The severity of the injury is not known and neither is the down time. Massaquoi is listed as out for the Packer preseason game.

Running back Montario Hardesty has still not practiced due to his knee injury. He is listed as questionable for the Packer preseason game.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys have five injuries to report. Linebackers Keith Brooking and Bruce Carter are both listed as questionable for their preseason game. Brooking has a hamstring injury while Carter is out with a knee injury.

Running backs Tashard Choice (calf) and DeMarco Murray (hamstring) are out for the preseason game against the Dever Broncos. Head coach Jason Garret says both players can start practicing next week.

Defensive back Terence Newman is out for the preseason but is expected to be back for the start of the regular season. Newman is listed with a pulled groin.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos have two injuries and they are both to their receivers. Brandon Lloyd has a knee injury and is questionable for the preseason opener. Demaryius Thomas is recovering from his torn Achilles and will be out until midseason.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have six players down with injuries. Defensive back Louis Delmas is expected to play in the preseason opener against the Bengals. He had a groin injury but it looks like it is fixed. Defensive back Alphonso Smith is listed as questionable for that game with a foot injury.

Running back Maurice Morris is questionable with a hand injury.

Star player Nick Fairley (foot) will miss the preseason opener and possibly more. Star running back Mikel Leshoure will miss the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Tight end Brandon Pettigrew will likely miss the preseason with an ankle injury. He is listed as probable for the regular season.

Green Bay Packers

The defending Super Bowl champs aren't immune to the injury bug. The Packers have four players down with injuries. Kicker Mason Crosby is questionable for the preseason opener with Cincinnati. Defensive back Brandon Underwood and tight end Jermichael Finley will miss the preseason with knee injuries.

Defensive lineman Johnny Jolly was suspended indefinitely in 2010 for drug possession.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have four injuries to report. Running backs Ben Tate and Arian Foster are both down with hamstring injuries but they should both be back in time for the preseason opener against the Jets.

Defensive back Roc Charmichael will likely miss the preseason opener with a shoulder injury. Linebacker Brian Cushing will likely be ready for the preseason opener against the Jets.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have two injuries to report and they are both linebackers. Kavell Conner has a finger injury and is questionable for the preseason opener against the St. Louis Rams. Ernie Sims is out until the end of August with an appendectomy.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have three injuries thus far. Kicker Josh Scobee is probable for the preseason opener against the New England Patriots. Receiver Cecil Shorts is questionable for the opener with a hip injury while quarterback David Garrard will likely be out for that game with a back injury.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have only one injury. Receiver Jonathan Baldwin has a hamstring injury and is listed as questionable for the preseason opener.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have one injury to report. Quarterback Chad Pennington will likely miss this season with injuries to both his shoulder and knee.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings have three injuries to report and they are all questionable for the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. Receiver Percy Harvin is out with an injury to his ribs. Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe is down with a hamstring injury, while linebacker Kenny Onatolu is out with a foot injury.

New England Patriots

The Patriots have three players down with injuries. Tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth are both questionable for the preseason opener against the Jaguars with undisclosed injuries. Running back Shane Vereen is also questionable with a leg injury.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have five injuries to report. All five men are listed as questionable for the preseason opener against the 49ers.

Receiver Marques Colston is out with a knee injury. Two other players, Tracy Porter (DB) and Greg Romeus (DL), are both out with knee injuries as well. Running back Chris Ivory is out with a foot injury while defensive back Johnny Patrick is down with a wrist injury.

New York Giants

The Giants have six players out with injuries and four of them are serious. Kicker Lawrence Tynes is questionable for the preseason opener against the Panthers with a quadriceps injury. Receiver Devin Thomas is also questionable with an injury to his finger.

Defensive backs Prince Amukamara (foot), Bruce Johnson (Achilles) and Chad Jones (leg) will miss significant time this season. Johnson and Jones will miss the entire season, while Amukamara will be out until October.

Defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora is out for the preseason opener with a hip and knee injury.

New York Jets

The New York Jets have two injuries and they are both to receivers. Receiver Jerricho Cotchery is questionable for the start of the regular season with a back injury. Receiver Plaxico Burress is questionable for the preseason opener with an ankle injury.

Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have six players down with injuries. Receiver Jacoby Ford is out with a hand injury and will miss the preseason opener with the Arizona Cardinals. Receiver Louis Murphy and defensive back Mike Mitchell are both down with undisclosed injuries and are doubtful for the Cardinal game.

Linebacker Trevor Scott is also questionable for the game with a knee injury. Defensive back Chimdi Chekwa is questionable with a shoulder injury. Running back Darren McFadden is doubtful for the game with an eye injury.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles have eight players down with injuries. Defensive lineman Mike Patterson suffered a seizure and is questionable for the preseason opener.

Defensive back Marlin Jackson is questionable for the start of the regular season due to a hernia. Running back LeSean McCoy is out with a leg injury but he should be back in time for the regular season. Receiver DeSean Jackson is questionable for the preseason opener with a knee injury.

Running back Leonard Weaver is questionable for the start of the regular season with a knee injury. Defensive back Nnamdi Asomugha is listed as probable for the preseason opener with a calf injury. Receiver Jeremy Macklin has an illness and is questionable for the preseason opener.

Newly acquired receiver Steve Smith is down with a knee injury and is questionable for the start of the regular season.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have four players down with injuries. Receiver Mike Wallace is probable for the preseason opener against the Redskins. Wallace has an injury to his groin. Receiver Emmanuel Sanders is doubtful for that game with a foot injury.

Safety Troy Polamalu has an Achilles tendon injury but it is not serious and he is probable for the preseason opener. Rookie Barron Batch has a knee injury and will miss some time.

San Diego Chargers

The Chargers have four injuries to report. Receiver Vincent Brown is questionable for the preseason opener with a hamstring injury. Defensive back Antoine Cason is probable for the start of the regular season with an injury to his finger.

Linebacker Larry English has a foot injury and is questionable for the preseason opener. Running back Ryan Matthews is probable for the start of the regular season. He has been hampered by a toe injury.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have three injuries so far. Receivers Mike Williams (toe) and Deon Butler (leg) will both be ready to go by the regular season. Defensive back Walter Thurmond is questionable for the preseason opener with an ankle injury.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have three players down with knee injuries. Defensive back Reggie Smith could be back in time for the regular season but tight end Nate Byham will miss the season.

Receiver Braylon Edwards has a undisclosed injury and is listed as questionable for the start of the regular season.

St. Louis Rams

The Rams have seven players out with injuries. Running back Jerrious Norwood is out with a knee injury and is listed as questionable for the preseason opener. Donnie Avery (knee) is questionable for the preseason opener, while fellow receiver Dominique Curry (hand) is questionable for the regular season.

Tight end Michael Hoomanawanui and linebacker David Vobra are questionable for the preseason opener with head injuries. Defensive back Jerome Murphy will likely miss the 2011 football season with an ankle injury.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers have three injuries to report. Tight end Luke Stocker (hip) is questionable for the preseason opener while receiver Arrelious Benn (knee) is probable. Defensive back Tanard Robinson is serving a suspension and is eligible for reinstatement on Sept. 22, 2011.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans have three injuries and two of them are to receivers. Receivers Damian Williams (ribs) and Kenny Britt (hamstring) are questionable for the preseason opener against the Vikings. Defensive lineman Sen'Derrick Marks is listed as doubtful for that game with a shoulder injury.

Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have eight players down with injuries. Star tight end Chris Cooley has a knee injury and will miss the preseason and is questionable for the regular-season opener. Receiver Brandon Banks (knee) and Malcolm Kelly (foot) will likely miss the preseason opener against the Steelers.

Clinton Portis (groin) will miss the preseason, while fellow running back Ryan Torain will be questionable for the preseason opener. Quarterback John Beck is questionable for the game with a groin injury, as is defensive lineman Ryan Kerrigan with a knee injury.

Defensive back Phillip Buchanon is suspended until Week 6.

The offseason has taken 119 players down with injuries. That is a significant number and it should be expected to climb as the preseason games get underway.
