Brett Favre to Miami? Dolphins' QB Situation Continues to Be Dreadful

Anthony PetronzioJun 7, 2018

Ever since Dan Marino retired in 1999, Miami has had a lot of trouble in football's most important position: the quarterback. From Jay Fiedler to Daunte Culpepper to Chad Henne and everything in between, Miami never found a consistent starter. Dolphins' fans are practically begging to have a reliable QB taking snaps for their team.

2011 will not be the season fans get their wish.

Granted, it is possible Chad Henne can have a breakout year. He's shown glimpses of being a steady, competitive quarterback, even in the tough AFC East. However, the good games are rare, and more often than not, Chad Henne makes poor throws and decisions. It is never good when a QB's interceptions thrown outnumber his TD's and games played, which applies to Henne.

Also as the year went on, it seemed Henne's production was actually declining rather than improving. A 3-game losing streak with Miami fighting for a playoff spot didn't help Henne either. Add in the boos fans were throwing towards him at training camp, and it seems safe to say Henne is not the guy for Miami.

Not all of this is Miami's fault though, to have a great quarterback you need a little luck on your side. Just ask the Patriots and Tom Brady.

In a year where Miami could have used a draft pick on a QB, it was one of the weakest QB classes in years to select from. Before Miami even got to select, Jake Locker and Christian Ponder were off the board, two quarterbacks I feel were drafted way too high. Sure, they could have taken a risk and picked Ryan Mallett or Colin Kaepernick, but only time will tell if those two prospects pan out.

Free agency and trades are where the Dolphins really dropped the ball this year. There were experienced quarterbacks Miami could have taken a chance on, even just to be a mentor. Matt Hasselbeck went to Tennessee and Donovan McNabb was traded to Minnesota. Instead, Miami signed inexperienced, and average at best quarterbacks Matt Moore and Kevin O'Connell.

The real mistake I feel Miami made was not getting the Kyle Orton deal done. Kyle Orton to Brandon Marshall could've been the best QB-WR combo in the division, as it was in Denver. Sadly, it might never see the light of day in Miami.

Now, the rumor is Brett Favre could be Miami's next quarterback. Knowing Brett Favre and the authenticity of rumors, I'm not too concerned with this. If he does come to Miami, a fan can only hope Favre doesn't repeat last year's fiasco of a season. Favre could be Miami's temporary solution, or he could just be like every other Miami quarterback of the last decade.

Lots of hype, little production
