Mike Adams Acquired by Texas Rangers from San Diego Padres
One day after acquiring Koji Uehara from the Baltimore Orioles, the Texas Rangers made another move by sending minor league pitchers Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland to the San Diego Padres in exchange for pitcher Mike Adams.
This move is surprising on both ends as it boosts what will already be a killer bullpen, but does so at the cost of a minor league pitcher that recently made headlines.
Joe Wieland recently threw a no-hitter for Double-A Frisco, the first no-hitter for the Rough Riders since Matt Harrison's in 2008.

Wieland, a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher, is dominating hitters at the Double-A level with a commanding 1.23 ERA in 44 innings pitched. Batters are hitting .213 against Wieland, and he is tossing 7.36 strikeouts per nine innings.
The 2008 fourth-round pick is going to be a great addition to the Padres farm system.
Robbie Erlin has been a pitcher with some struggles as of late. He has 10 starts under his belt, with a not-so-impressive 4.32 ERA. While his BB/9 is below 1.00 and his K/9 is at 8.24, he has been giving up a lot of hitsโhis opponents boast a .324 batting average on balls in play.
It will be very interesting to see how he develops in San Diego.
Mike Adams is a solid relief pitcher that brings closer-like stuff to the Rangers.
Batters are hitting .153 against Adams, and he has an impressive 9.19 K/9. He's not a home-run pitcher, but he does have a tendency to walk the occasional batter. But with Adams's ERA of 1.13 and a fielding-independent ERA of 2.05, his acquisition gives Texas the best 7th-8th-9th setup in baseball.
If the Rangers' explosive offense keeps up with their stellar starting rotation, Texas will have the best team in baseball and will be the team to beat in the 2011 MLB Playoffs.
