Cincinnati Reds Roundtable: Discuss the Trade Deadline and All Things Red

Cliff EasthamJun 3, 2018

I would like this article to be a sounding board for all serious Reds fans to voice their opinions. Not just for today, but the rest of the season. Currently our opinions are expressed in various articles (which I still want us to do) but this can be a meeting place to check in on the latest skinny.

Here it is, Sunday morning about four hours before the trade deadline, and so far we as fans have little to shout about. We got rid of Jonny Gomes and put two warm bodies in cold storage on our breed-to-die grounds.

I apologize if I seem a little sarcastic and apathetic. It is just painful watching Cleveland, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, St. Louis and all the other teams who made an attempt to get better at the MAJOR LEAGUE LEVEL. Don't edit me here boys, because I am screaming.

The Indians run off with Ubaldo Jimenez, whom I was led to believe we still had a legitimate shot at. The Phillies bring in one of the best outfielders in the game, Hunter Pence, to go along with the best pitching staff since the Atlanta Braves in the Maddox-Glavine-Smoltz era.

At the time of this writing the only players still worth mentioning are Wandy Rodriguez and Michael Bourn, neither of which the Reds have a real shot at.

The Reds have just won a series against the World Series champion San Francisco Giants and go for a sweep today with Johnny Cueto facing former Cy Young winner Barry Zito.

Dusty Baker continues trotting Drew Stubbs out as the leadoff batter with a .328 OBP and the highest total of strikeouts to be found anywhere. Is there a rhyme or reason for anything Baker does in regards to batting order and position placement?

Yonder Alonso is now a pinch hitter, despite being one of the top five trading chips on the market. He is a pinch hitter and rostered as a first baseman, not an outfielder. God help us all.

Keep coming back and using this as a Reds bulletin board where we can all voice our thoughts.
