NFL Free Agency: How to Make Sense of the Eagles Secondary with Nnamdi Asomugha
According to an ESPN analyst the prize of free agency, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has signed a five-year $60 million deal. This deal absolutely transforms the Eagles' secondary from amazing to legendary. There is the possibility that this secondary may be one of the greatest the league has ever seen.
Less than 24 hours earlier, the Eagles traded away Kevin Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round draft pick. Three years ago they signed Asante Samuel away from the New England Patriots. All of these men were number one cornerbacks for their previous teams.
The news of Asomugha pairing up with Darrelle Revis on the New York Jets would have been incredible, but the news of Asomugha teaming up with Asante Samuel and Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie is absolutely unbelievable. The Eagles secondary now is far and away the best in the league. If this was Madden the ratings of their cornerbacks would probably be all above a 95 with Asomugha perhaps being a 99.

With Asomugha as a guaranteed starter and Asante Samuel most likely filling in the other side, the Eagles will be able to blitz uncontrollably without fear of the opposing wide receivers. Now when that team tries to go into shotgun, Rodgers-Cromartie will easily shut down the slot receiver. This is a scary thought for anyone in the NFC, and instantly makes the Eagles supreme contenders to win the Super Bowl.
If these three men can mesh, stay healthy and play together as a unit, I do not see any team regardless of quarterback and wide receivers being able to pass well on these guys. Look out NFL because the Eagles are showing that they want to be unstoppable.Ā
