Packers Lose Guard Daryn Colledge: Who Will Replace Him?

Jake WinieckiJun 7, 2018

Daryn Colledge is going to be an Arizona Cardinal next season, ending his five-year run as the starting left guard on the Packers offensive line.

Now that he is gone, who will replace him?

The Packers certainly have some good depth and should have multiple options to choose from.

Please feel free to comment and share your opinion!

Will the Packers sign a free agent to take over at left guard?

I think it is fair to say that there is almost no chance of that, knowing how Ted Thompson operates.

The Packers have enough depth to replace Colledge with a player already on their team, but then again, you never know.

I have been surprised with this team before.

4. Nick McDonald

The second-year pro out of Grand Valley State was the Packers reserve center last season.

He also has the ability to play guard if needed.

McDonald will most likely be a backup once again this season and should do a pretty good job at that.

Hopefully the Packers won't need to use him on their quest to repeat as champs.

3. Derek Sherrod

The Packers first-round pick this past spring was drafted to be the long-term replacement to Chad Clifton at left tackle.

He could also switch over to right tackle if Bryan Bulaga were to move over to the left side.

He could in fact even play left guard if they really needed him to.

Chances are he won't be starting the season as Colledge's replacement, but it isn't out of the question.

The Packers first-round pick in 2010 played very well at right tackle this past season and was a big reason why the team was able to go on the playoff run that they did.

He is a very versatile lineman who was in contention to start at left guard last year as well.

I'd say right now, he will be staying at right tackle, but if needed, he would be a more than adequate replacement.

1. T.J. Lang

The third-year pro is without a doubt the front-runner for the job this year.

Most of his game action has been at tackle, but he is better at playing guard, or at least, that seems to be the case.

He should not only be able to replace Daryn Colledge; he should be an improvement over the Boise State product.

Lang should be a great addition to Green Bay's offensive line and help them try to repeat as Super Bowl champions in 2011.
