MLB Trade Deadline: With Carlos Beltran Gone, What Outfielders Are on the Block?

Jared FeldmanJun 7, 2018

That whole Carlos Beltran thing is over, finally.

The San Francisco Giants got their man, and now remaining teams are left to pick up the pieces. Luckily, there are a number of solid outfielders destined to be traded before the MLB trade deadline on Sunday.

The Braves, Phillies, Pirates, Indians and Reds are amongst the teams speculated to be looking for competent outfielders for the stretch run.

Here are some of the top remaining outfielders on the market.

Josh Willingham

1 of 5

The Oakland Athletics are shifting into rebuilding mode, and are looking for players for the future. Josh Willingham is currently on a one-year, $6 million contract and is not likely to be retained after this season.

While he has been limited by injury, Willingham has 13 home runs and 50 RBI in 79 games this year. There are rumors that Willingham could be targeted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in preparation for the stretch run.

Michael Cuddyer

2 of 5

Cuddyer is an attractive alternative to Beltran. His cost is potentially lower and is having a solid season despite languishing on the Minnesota Twins. He is batting just around .300 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI.

The Twins do not wish to part with Cuddyer. The Giants were interested, but with Beltran now they are unlikely to make a move for another outfielder.

Hunter Pence

3 of 5

The costliest member of this group, Hunter Pence is a budding star in the making. He is hitting .307 with 11 home runs and 62 RBI in the 2011 season.

Pence has two years of arbitration remaining and any potential trade suitors would be able to potentially negotiate an extension.

He is 28 years old and is entering the prime of his career. In order for the Astros to trade Pence, they would require a sizable prospect return.

Melky Cabrera

Cabrera is a bit more under the radar than the others on this list. He is having an excellent first season with the Kansas City Royals, batting .297 with 12 home runs and 57 RBI this season.

He is on a very affordable contract ($1.25 million) and is relatively young. The Royals likely would seek pitching in return.

Coco Crisp

5 of 5

With the injury to the Indians' Grady Sizemore, Cleveland could be in the market for Oakland A's outfielder Crisp, who is having a solid season for the A's, batting .266 this season with 27 stolen bases.

Crisp was a member of the Indians from 2002-2005. He could provide a bit of speed at the top of the Indians lineup.
